Are you hiding any snack stashes somewhere in your home? A lot of Americans are, according to a new survey. It looks at the real snack habits of people across the country, and reveals our true snack-loving ways. And it turns out, snacking is an essential part of our daily lives.

Popchips polled 5-thousand adults from all 50 states and found 79% consider themselves “snack people,” preferring to graze during the day instead of eating traditional meals.

Americans reach for a snack four times a day, on average.
The most popular time of day to snack is in the afternoons between noon and 5 p.m.
More than a third (39%) admit to going entire days without eating a real meal, getting by on snacks alone.
For 53%, there’s no shame in eating an entire bag of chips in one sitting.
Some people confess to canceling plans just to stay home and snack.
Secret snack stashes are pretty common, with 60% admitting to having one at home. The bedroom is the most popular hiding spot (67%), followed by the living room (35%), garages, attics and basements (10%).
Popular places to hide snacks also include spots outside the home like cars (57%), office desks (41%), and gym lockers (18%).
More than half (53%) of Americans say snacking is better with friends than alone and 69% feel like their authentic selves when sharing snacks with friends.
People are most likely to reach for snacks while watching sports (56%), sitcoms and comedies (54%).
Respondents in several states say watch parties are the best activity for snacking with friends, with those in Georgia (58%) and South Carolina (also 58%) topping the list.
Chips are the preferred snack while watching “The Pitt” (31%), “Abbott Elementary” (22%) and “Industry” (19%).
