“Touch grass” isn’t just slang used to tell someone to step away from their screens and spend time offline, turns out, it’s actually solid advice. New research finds that regularly spending time in nature can boost body image and life satisfaction, too.
A new study analyzes responses from more than 50-thousand people, between the ages of 18 and 99, from 58 countries, making it the largest study of its kind ever done. The findings back up previous research that showed that spending time in the natural world — like taking a walk in the country or forest bathing — can improve well-being. But the new study digs deeper into why, finding that contact with nature is linked with higher self-compassion, which promotes greater body appreciation and satisfaction with life.
According to lead study author Viren Swami, spending time in nature gives us opportunities for what’s known as “cognitive quiet” — “a state of awareness where our attention is effortlessly engaged.” Tranquil environments also give people a break from all the traffic, noise and crowds they deal with daily, helping them to feel restored. He explains, "At a time when many countries are searching for affordable ways to improve well-being, our findings highlight the value of natural environments as important public health resources and reinforce the importance of using scientific evidence to shape planning, education and health policies."⠀

Believe it or not, you’re more likely to bowl a perfect 300, break a bone, or even get injured by your toilet than you are to be struck by lightning. Some folks start to panic anytime a big summer thunderstorm rolls in, but it turns out, the odds of being struck are less than one in a million. Of course, some parts of the country have a higher risk than others and new research warns us where they are.
A new study analyzes weather data from the last 20 years to find out where you’re most likely to get struck by lightning.
It identifies the most lightning-prone states by reviewing data from the National Lightning Safety Council and the National Weather Service, and noting every recorded lightning death in each state from 2006 to 2025.
So, which state is the most dangerous for lightning strikes? Florida tops the list, thanks to its combo of heat, humidity and sea breezes.⠀
There were 97 lightning-related deaths confirmed in Florida during those two decades, and the state averages about 1.2 million lightning strikes each year.
The study finds that nearly two-thirds of all lightning deaths in the U.S. happened during outdoor leisure activities. The danger peaks from June to August, with July being the deadliest month historically and afternoons being the most likely time for a fatal strike.
There are five states that haven’t recorded a single lightning strike fatality since 2006: Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, New Hampshire, and Washington.

There’s a new conversation happening around Ozempic and similar GLP-1 weight‑loss drugs — and it’s not just about the physical results. Some people are reporting what’s being called “Ozempic personality,” where they feel a little emotionally flat or less excited about things they used to enjoy. While this side effect is not super common, it is real. Doctors say it may be tied to how these drugs affect the brain’s reward system, basically dialing down cravings and, in some cases, pleasure overall. Experts say if you’re taking the drug and your mood feels off, it’s something to talk to your doctor about.
