Getting married can be an incredible experience, but it can also be ridiculously expensive. According to Zola, the average cost of a wedding in the U.S. in 2026 is now $36-thousand. But as the wedding planning site points out, when you start researching wedding costs, you’ll find that the numbers are all over the place because the cost can vary dramatically based on where you have it, how many people you invite and what matters most to the couple.
Zola’s $36-thousand total may seem high, but it includes these average costs:
The venue - $8,573 and catering - $6,927 - eat up the biggest chunks of the budget.
Photography - $4,400 and videography - $3,993
Wedding planning - $4,047, flowers and decor - $6,345
Bar services - $5,542, music and entertainment - $1,567
Wedding dress - $2-thousand
Other costs like hair and makeup, tux rentals, wedding dress alterations and the officiant.
The thing is, location makes a huge difference, as a 150-guest wedding costs around $85-thousand in San Francisco, but the same event in Milwaukee is only $43-thousand.

Scientists at Georgia Tech have invented a new mobile app called "COBALT" that lets anyone control a real robot arm from anywhere on Earth using just their smartphone. Users don't need any tech experience. Instead, they just move the phone around — and a robot arm thousands of miles away will instantly mirror the exact hand movements. It even has simple buttons on the screen to let users grab, move, and release objects, making it feel just like a mobile video game. The researchers envision a future where this creates a new gig economy — kind of like an Uber for robots — where people could log onto the app from their couch and get paid to remotely control a robot helper to wash dishes or fold laundry for someone on the other side of the planet.

Attention all Ryans ... you're invited to make history next month. The Mall of America in Minnesota is asking people named Ryan to take part in a quirky attempt to set a Guinness World Record — by riding a roller coaster together. The event, called "Ryde the Ryan Coaster," is set for July 24th. Organizers hope to pack the Pepsi Orange Streak coaster with nothing but Ryans for an entire hour, potentially cycling about a thousand riders to set the record for the most people with the same name on a roller coaster in succession. Participants will gather beforehand in the mall’s main rotunda — temporarily dubbed the "Rytunda" — before heading into Nickelodeon Universe for the attempt. It’s all part of a growing movement called "Ryan Meetup," which brings together people who share the name, with the broader goal of eventually setting the record for the largest same-name gathering ever.

In Bangkok, police have arrested a security guard who they say was caught on video stealing from a donation box at a Buddhist temple. The guard allegedly climbed over the wall at Wat Pho and then “covered his head with a cloth” to conceal his identity. For added measure, he also “recited what he described as a spell to conceal himself before carrying out the theft.” The spell of invisibility didn’t take, though, and police easily apprehended their suspect.
