Americans’ love of cheese is no secret, but new research reveals just how deep that love goes. While some enjoy snacking on it or adding it to meals, more than half (52%) of Americans actually identify as “cheese-obsessed,” according to a new survey.

The poll of 5-thousand adults across the country, out ahead of National Cheese Day coming up on June 4th, finds that for many folks, cheese is a part of their daily routine.

That includes 16% who say they’re “constantly” eating cheese and 61% who eat it often or sometimes.

Only 3% say they never eat cheese.

It’s a favorite food for 82% of respondents and 91% love to add cheese as a topping or ingredient to meals, while 77% say it’s their go-to snack.

Nearly three-quarters (73%) say cheese is a staple in their grocery carts, as they always or often buy it.

These days, a lot of people are focused on getting plenty of protein in their diets, and more than half (54%) of those polled lean into cheese as a source of protein.

Three-quarters love cheese for the taste (74%), while 51% eat it for comfort, 49% enjoy the convenience, and 46% say cheese makes meals more satisfying or filling.

Some parts of the country seem to be bigger fans of cheese than others, and Wisconsin tops the list for cheese enthusiasm (61%). Illinois comes in second (59%), followed by Alaska, Louisiana and Oregon (58% each).

Younger Americans are more likely to call themselves cheese enthusiasts (61% of Gen Z compared to 44% of baby boomers).

But which cheese is America’s favorite? Cheddar is number one (77%), followed by mozzarella (74%), parmesan (64%), American cheese (63%) and cream cheese (59%).

Dexerto says a recent study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine reveals that 90 to 119 minutes of weight training per week lowers the risk of death from any cause. Researchers studied 147,374 adults. They found that resistance training lowers the risk of death by 7% to 11%. Those who did both weightlifting and cardio cut their death risk by 45%. Participants also showed a 19% lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease and a 27% lower risk of death from brain and nervous system diseases.

An Nvidia-backed startup called Span, better known for smart home electrical panels, is planning to place miniature data centers beside private homes as part of a distributed computing network designed to support AI workloads. Span plans an initial rollout of about 100 homes and is pitching homeowners incentives like discounted electricity or revenue sharing

Australia is sitting on a massive surplus of wine it can't sell, and with fuel prices spiking due to the Iran war, some politicians are pushing the government to investigate converting the excess into ethanol fuel. Members of the National Party have backed calls for Commonwealth funding to study whether Australia's wine glut could be used to supplement the country's fuel supply. Anne Webster noted the wine surplus equates to about two days' worth of Australia's total fuel needs

CBS says a Chicago man recently reported that squirrels damaged three of his luxury vehicles after gnawing on plant-based car parts. They caused $30,000 in damage. Myron Sonkin says his new BMW 430i had claw marks and chew marks on his engine hoses. The squirrels also destroyed several of his other vehicles, including a loaner car from his dealership

The Daily Express says stick shift cars could disappear from roads by the end of the decade. A new study by Vehicle Data Global reveals that most new cars will have automatic transmissions. Demand for manual transmissions is falling as EVs and hybrids rise. VDG says 5% to 10% may still be manual by 2030.

NBC says Elon Musk will become the world's first trillionaire after his rocket company Space X begins selling shares of stock to the public on June 12th. A trillionaire has 1,000 times more money than a billionaire. That amount of money is enough to run a state with 10 million people. Shares of SpaceX are expected to sell for $135 which would put Musk's net worth at $988 billion

Talker News says two London golfers recently beat odds of 156 million to one when they hit back-to-back holes in one on the same par three hole. David Lewis and Rob Davis both hit their aces from 107 yards out. David last hit a hole-in-one 15 years ago. Both men have been playing golf since they were children. Their friends are now telling them to buy lottery tickets

The Daily Star says a Joinville, Brazil woman posed as a 12-year-old girl and lived with a couple for 14 months.  The 37-year-old was arrested after a relative alerted the police. Investigators say Amanda Oliveira carried out similar identity fraud schemes under different aliases.  She drank from baby bottles and claimed to be autistic to justify her adult appearance. Amanda is in jail and is facing fraud and false identity charges

The NY Post says a Clarksburg, Maryland suspect’s pants fell down while he was being arrested outside a church. Cell phone video shows the man wrestling with several officers. A female officer tased him during the encounter. Moments later his pants and underwear fell down, leaving him naked from the waist down.

NBC says a North Fort Myers, Florida man was recently arrested for stealing lawn gnomes from a resident’s yard. A woman called the police and told them she had Ring doorbell camera footage of a man stealing the gnomes and then riding away on a tricycle. Officers identified John Ramey as the suspect. They found the gnomes and his tricycle and charged him with theft.

WFLA says the Bradenton, Florida police recently arrested Marco Benitez Jr for trying to sell a stolen radioactive device on Facebook Marketplace. He wanted between $10,000 and $20,000 for his moisture density gauge. Cops received a tip about the sale and took Benitez into custody for grand theft and possession of a radiation device without a license
