Fewer Americans are getting married these days, and new research shows which cities' residents are most likely to die alone. According to Census data on adults ages 30 to 49, the share of people who’ve never married is rising nationwide — now about 31%, up from just 15% in 1960. In New York and other states with big cities, high costs and a tough dating scene mean more people are delaying, or skipping, marriage altogether. A quarter of 40-year-olds in the U.S. have never married, which is a record high. New York has the highest number of never-married residents. At the other end of the spectrum, Idaho has the lowest number of unmarried people.

Here are the top 10 states where people are likely to die alone:

New York
New Mexico
Hawaii
Nevada
Rhode Island
Massachusetts
Louisiana
Delaware
Pennsylvania
Florida
The states where Americans are most likely to marry:

14. Oklahoma
13. Arkansas
12. Kentucky
11. West Virginia
10. Texas
9. South Dakota
8. Indiana
7. Nebraska
6. Kansas
5. Iowa
4. Wyoming
