Monday Morning Mystery - WISHING YOU WERE HERE - #11 CHICAGO 1974
CHICAGO PETER CETERA BEACH BOYS
Summer is coming, but with rising fees and fewer flight options because of soaring jet fuel prices, travelers are trying to figure out where they can book a vacation within their budget. While some places may just be too pricey this year, a new study crunches the numbers to find the most expensive summer vacation spots, and which are most affordable.
The research from MoneyLion analyzes the cost at different destinations for a getaway from June 12th to 19th, including seven nights in a hotel and airfare for four people.
Hotel costs were determined using an average of the three cheapest hotels within five miles of the location’s downtown, and the total trip cost uses the average total cost for airfare, hotel, meals and drinks.
If you’re still trying to decide where to go this summer, but want to keep it on the cheap, you may want to cross Anchorage, Alaska, off your list of options.
It’s the most expensive destination in the study, costing $6,861 for a family of four. That includes over $2-thousand for meals, nearly $2-thousand for hotels, and over $2-thousand for airfare.
Fortunately, the study finds that there are still plenty of budget-friendly destinations in the U.S.
Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is the most affordable overall, where a week-long trip for four only costs $3,138. That’s $1,862 for meals, just $602 for a hotel, and less than $500 for flights.

According to a new study, chimps in the wild might be better at predicting the weather than humans are. Researchers found that these apes don't just wait for the rain to start. Instead, they sense when a storm is coming — and prepare their beds hours in advance. On nights that are going to be cold or wet, they build thicker, deeper nests and pick taller trees with thicker leaves to stay dry. The big breakthrough here is that the chimps aren't just reacting to the weather they see right now. They are planning for the weather that’s coming later. It’s like they have an internal "vibe" of the forecast.

Someone broke into a locked emergency intercom panel at the Hampton Inn on Portwalk Place in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, early Saturday morning and broadcast a vulgar, homophobic message that blared through the entire hotel and an attached apartment complex around 4 a.m. According to police, the suspect got in through a hallway kept unlocked for emergency personnel, then forced open the panel and jolted guests awake, with some initially thinking the noise was their phones. One guest, Ralph Basiliere, described the broadcast as containing "very homophobic and threatening language." Some guests said they want full refunds after spending hundreds on their stays; hotel staff said security was never compromised and increased patrols are in place. Police believe the suspect was under the influence, which is most likely a safe bet; so far, no arrests have been made.
