A new study from Florida International University reveals that fitness watches often overestimate calories burned by 15% to 25%. Garmin and Samsung overestimate the most. Apple was the most accurate of the devices tested. The higher a person's body fat, the greater the calorie-counting errors tended to be.

Halloween advent calendars are trending, with Google searches hitting record highs and retailers rolling out everything from candy-filled countdowns to puzzles, crafts and horror-themed collectibles. Options include a 24-day murder mystery, an ’80s horror movie calendar, a 31-day building-block set and even a light-up haunted mansion that reveals more windows as October days pass. Prices range widely from around $20 to $200, with choices aimed at kids, horror fans, puzzle lovers or anyone who just wants to celebrate Halloween as a month-long event. Apparently, Christmas no longer has a monopoly on counting down to the big day.

After months of speculation and rumors, Apple officially unveiled its first-ever foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo. The device — priced at $1999 — opens from a 5.4-inch outer cover display into a 7.6-inch inner screen, designed to look and feel like an iPad. When it's open, the iPhone Duo, which will be available in two colors, Star White and Dark Sky, is the thinnest iPhone ever created. It will be available for pre-order starting October 16th and is expected to start shipping to customers on October 23rd.

Basic Tutorials says a $20,000 luxury version of the iPhone Ultra is coming from Caviar.   The Russian company specializes in upgrades.  The Ultra is the new Apple foldable iPhone.  The Liquid Metal Edition iPhone Ultra has a solid sterling silver back with a 3D wave pattern that shines like liquid metal. Because silver blocks radio signals, the device cannot be charged wirelessly or used with MagSafe. Only 17 units will be made.

ABC says the TSA is considering allowing TSA PreCheck members to bring bottles of water through airport security. The possible change would apply to travelers enrolled in the TSA PreCheck program.

The New York Post says a $38 sandwich has become the biggest star of the US Open tennis tournament. Salt Hank’s French dip sandwich has fans waiting 15 to 20 minutes to buy one. The sandwich comes with prime rib, onions, aioli and provolone.

Parade magazine says Brach’s has launched a Candy Corn fragrance called Ode to Candy Corn. The limited-edition eau de parfum smells like creamy vanilla, spun sugar and honey. It is meant to evoke the opening of a fresh bag of Candy Corn. The fragrance comes in a 1.7-ounce spray bottle priced at $22. Each bottle also includes a bag of Brach’s Classic Candy Corn.  Online releases are scheduled for September 22nd  and October 1st

The Smoking Gun says three drunk Florida men were recently arrested for pounding on a Waffle House window at 4:30 a.m. and then throwing beef sticks at it. Two of the men were wearing only their underwear at the time. Officials found them shortly after the incident sitting on a bench near an adjacent laundromat. The men were later released on $150 bond. It is unknown why they chose to throw the beef sticks.

Dangerous Minds says a visually impaired UK man, without a driver's license, drove 150 miles after a wine binge.  Anthony Hall travelled overnight from his home until police acted on an anonymous tip that his vehicle was weaving on a highway. Hall told officers he had lost his sight two years earlier but could see some light. He was looking for another vehicle to follow when he got stopped.

A New Hampshire man is accused of stealing a fire truck while firefighters were battling a blaze at his own home. Police say 30-year-old Nestor Roman drove away in the truck, hit another fire engine, ran over fire hoses, and narrowly missed three firefighters before crashing through a wooden fence. He later ended up on another homeowner’s lawn and allegedly tried to get inside the house. State troopers arrested Roman after a struggle. He faces several charges, including burglary and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon. His home was destroyed by the fire, but no injuries were reported.
