Fort Peck Tribes bring traveling museum to Museum of the Rockies Oct. 27-28

The Museum of the Rockies at Montana State University will host the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes’ traveling museum for cultural presentations and demonstrations from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 27-28, in the Hager Auditorium. The experience is included with museum admission.

The traveling museum brings the history, culture and living traditions of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakoda peoples to life through presentations emphasizing oral history, language preservation, Indigenous ecological knowledge and the ongoing stewardship of ancestral homelands.

Presentations will also cover the role tribal museums play in preserving cultural heritage and caring for collections. Visitors can carefully handle select cultural materials, including beadwork, quillwork, leatherwork and textiles. Visitors will explore historic trade routes, treaties and contemporary tribal sovereignty while learning about the cultural practices that connect generations.
