Grandma may have actually been onto something when she insisted dinner would taste even better tomorrow. Australian researchers recently put that leftovers theory to a blind taste test, serving 65 adults fresh and day-old versions of four dishes: beef lasagna, butter chicken, dhal, and apple crumble.
So which dishes actually got better after a night in the fridge?
Butter chicken was the clear leftovers winner, with tasters choosing the day-old version nearly 64% of the time.
Lasagna was basically a tie between fresh and reheated.
People could tell the difference between fresh and reheated dhal and apple crumble, but didn’t strongly prefer either version.
Researchers aren’t sure exactly why butter chicken improved, but one theory is that spices and aromatics mellow overnight, creating a more rounded flavor.
Sauces may also help disguise the stale or “warmed-over” flavor that reheated meat can sometimes develop.
Starches in foods like pasta and rice change as they cool, which can alter their texture the next day.
There may even be a psychological factor: after spending hours cooking and tasting something, your palate can get tired of it, so coming back fresh the next day may make it seem better.
While not every dish got better overnight and the study only tested a handful of foods, at least one old kitchen belief held up pretty well: some meals really can taste better the next day.

Fun Facts About Fluff ... Today is National Fluffernutter Day
The earliest known Fluffernutter-style sandwich dates to World War I. Emma Curtis published a peanut butter and marshmallow crème sandwich called the “Liberty Sandwich.”
The Fluffernutter name didn't appear until 1960. It was created by the advertising agency for Durkee-Mower, the Massachusetts company that makes Marshmallow Fluff.
Fluffernutter pioneer Emma Curtis was a direct descendant of Paul Revere. She was his great-great-great-granddaughter and helped popularize marshmallow crème through recipes and radio appearances.

United Press International says a team of 50 chefs recently broke a Guinness World Record in Idaho by serving 1,474 pounds of fresh-cut French fries. The team used six fryers to transform 1,700 pounds of potatoes into the delicious side dish. The fries were served to attendees of the Boise Potato Days Festival. Idaho Potato Commission CEO Jamey Higham says, "If you're going to hold the world record for the largest serving of French fries, we think it belongs in Idaho. We've always known Idaho potatoes make the best fries, so it was time to bring this title home and celebrate the growers and industry that put Idaho potatoes on the map."

All hail Ian Paton, the grower of the world’s heaviest pumpkin! It was just last year when Paton set the record for the heaviest pumpkin, with a gourd that weighed in at a whopping 2,819 pounds. This year, he outdid himself by presenting to the world a 2,856.8-pound monstrosity. Apparently, there’s no stopping the growth of a pumpkin if you’re willing to put in the work. For this beast, Paton says it took six hours of hands-on care each day, along with 130-gallons of water daily, and a “specialized germination process” and “top secret seeds.”

A Florida man had to go all the way to Wyoming to get tackled by cops for drunkenly trespassing on strangers' properties while looking for Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen -- who he hoped to lure to the Dallas Cowboys.
The 43-year-old, who has not been publicly identified, was cuffed and collared after a homeowner called 911 to report him for creeping around his house. Once in custody, the suspect says he was looking for Allen, who had gone to the University of Wyoming before turning pro, in order to convince him to switch teams. The Florida man reportedly hit all the indicators for impairment on the horizontal gaze and then allegedly blew a .238% blood-alcohol concentration. He said he would hire his own lawyer and was given a $1,000 cash-only bond. (Oil City News)

People Magazine says authorities recently found 10 live birds hidden in a traveler’s underwear at Miami International Airport. Alberto Castillo arrived from Cuba and was selected for a secondary inspection. Officers noticed an unexplained bulge and said Castillo appeared nervous. A pat-down uncovered eight yellow-faced grassquits and two blue grosbeaks. Castillo had checked “no” when asked whether he was bringing animals or wildlife into the United States. He said the birds were for his “personal use” before invoking his right to remain silent. Castillo was charged with smuggling goods.
