1973 Inflation has a significant impact on peoples lives around the world with the UK inflation rate running at 8.4% and the US running at 6.16% . This causes problems in every aspect of peoples lives from the price of Gas, Food and Bills , which in turn causes higher wages and the spiral continues, much of this is caused by the Arab members of the (OPEC) restricting the flow of oil to countries supporting Israel as part of the Yom Kippur War. And the start of a Recession in Europe causing increased unemployment and a 3-day week in the UK. Meanwhile in the US two important cases dominate the news with Roe v. Wade making abortion a US constitutional right on the 22nd January and the start of the Watergate hearings in the US Senate, and due to price increase of gas the Japanese car manufacturers with smaller engines and more efficient have an impact of the US car industry

Now that Halloween is in the books, it’s time to focus on Thanksgiving and Campbell’s is kicking off the season with its State of the Sides Report. It highlights the side dishes Americans love most and just how important they are to the holiday feast.
According to the report, based on a survey of 5-thousand adults from all 50 states, sides really are the star of the Thanksgiving table, as nearly half (46%) of respondents say they’d be perfectly happy with a meal made of sides only. That jumps to 65% among Gen Z and 56% for millennials.
Eight in 10 say they actually enjoy cooking the sides more than the turkey, up 11% since 2023.
Americans are also serving more sides: 86% will serve at least four sides this year.
As for the favorites, the lineup has stayed the same for the last three years, with stuffing/dressing at number one, followed by mashed potatoes, yams/sweet potatoes, mac & cheese, and green bean casserole.
Sides are a family tradition for many Americans, as 77% make dishes passed down from their grandparents that have special significance for them.
For two-thirds of those polled, green bean casserole reminds them of Thanksgivings past and 51% say the Thanksgiving table wouldn’t be complete without it.
Campbell’s sells almost 40-million cans of cream of mushroom soup during the holiday season. During the last five holiday seasons, they’ve sold more than 308-million, enough to make green bean casseroles that would circle the country four times if lined up end to end.
Mac & cheese is the great unifier, as 57% say it's the dish everyone can agree on and 42% say there are never mac & cheese leftovers at their house.
This year, three-quarters of Americans plan to add something new to their holiday table.
More than a quarter (27%) have used AI to help with holiday planning or cooking and nearly one in three say they’d trust an AI recipe enough to try it for Thanksgiving without doing a test run first.
