You know the ones: the old-school candies that have been around for decades, and in some cases, more than a century. They're often labeled "Boomer Candy," and while some people love them, others can't wait to trade them away. AOL says Halloween decorators are charging $2,000 to decorate homes this holiday season. The displays cost between $200 and $1,200 with the rest going to labor. The services include finding pumpkins, arranging them and then cleaning up afterward. The post-Halloween pumpkins go to farmers so they can use them as feed.

Farmers' Almanac has released its Halloween guide. To estimate turnout, it suggests asking neighbors or using last year’s trick or treater count, while allowing for changes caused by weather, neighborhood events, or the day of the week. The guide recommends two fun-size pieces per trick-or-treater, plus about 10% extra. For 100 visitors, that works out to roughly 220 pieces of candy. For full-size candy bars, the guide says to plan on one per trick-or-treater. 61% of consumers plan to hand out candy. Farmers' Almanac recommends buying candy during the second-to-last week of October for the best prices.

A teal pumpkin on someone’s porch is more than just Halloween décor, it signals that non-food treats are available for kids with food allergies or dietary restrictions. The Teal Pumpkin Project began in Tennessee in 2012 and later became a national initiative encouraging families to hand out things like small toys alongside or instead of candy. Supporters say it helps make trick-or-treating safer and more inclusive for children who can’t eat many traditional Halloween treats. Parents are still encouraged to check anything their kids receive, since even some toys and supposedly allergy-friendly foods can contain potential allergens.

Pringles is taking brand loyalty all the way to the grave with a giveaway inspired by the man who designed its iconic cylindrical can. Fredric Bauer, who created the container in 1966, had some of his ashes buried in a Pringles can after his death in 2008. Now the brand is giving one fan a customizable metal urn shaped like the famous can, along with what it calls an “afterlifetime” supply of chips. Fans can enter the “Once You Drop” giveaway through October 22nd by signing a tongue-in-cheek “will and taste-ament,” committing to being interred in the classic container.

Scientists at the University of Colorado have created a new tattoo ink that can be turned "on and off" using different types of light. The light-sensitive ink — called PhotoTat — changes color in seconds when exposed to ultraviolet light, allowing wearers to show off or completely hide their body art. The design stays visible indoors for days, but exposure to bright outdoor sunlight erases the color almost instantly while leaving the ink safely inside the skin. If the researchers perfect this stuff, people will have a way to temporarily hide tattoos for work or family events — and could also help doctors create invisible medical markings for surgeries.

United Press International says Ron Wallace, of Coventry, Rhode Island, brought a 3,156-pound pumpkin to the Southern New England Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off. It is the first pumpkin known to weigh more than 3,000 pounds. Guinness World Records still has to approve the weigh-in before it can count as a new world record. The current record is a 2,856-pound pumpkin from Berkshire, England. In 2012, Wallace became the first grower to harvest a pumpkin weighing more than one ton.

United Press International says a trailer hauling a load of french fries recently caught fire on a Utah highway. The driver was unharmed and successfully managed to disconnect the trailer before the flames spread to his semi truck. Emery County Sheriff Tyson Huntington joked on social media, "Dispatch was advised that the trailer on fire was hauling french fries. Despite the overwhelming urge to stop at home and grab a bottle of ketchup or fry sauce, ECSO Deputy Josh Opp dashed out to the scene. Most importantly, no one was injured. However, it's always sad to lose french fries."

Nobody likes to be forgotten. That goes double for a patient in an urgent care exam room. That goes triple when the rest of the urgent care staff has gone home, and that patient finds themselves locked inside. In Keene, New Hampshire, Tia Chandler says she received a steroid shot while visiting a ConvenientMD location at 7:45pm late last month. The staff member told Chandler that they’d “be right back,” but they never came back. At around 8:10 pm, she started to wonder what was up, and found that she was the only one left in the building. Panicking and locked inside, Chandler called 911, and police eventually were able to free her from her medical confines. In a statement, ConvenientMD says this “never should’ve happened,” they apologized to Chandler, and say they’ve “taken steps to ensure this never happens again.”

An Iowa woman is facing charges after police say she used stolen credit card information to rent bounce houses for Father’s Day and Fourth of July parties. Investigators allege the rentals left the inflatable company with more than $1,300 in losses after chargebacks. Police say evidence linked the orders to the woman through phone numbers, email accounts, and a park reservation connected to the events. She denied placing the orders, but now faces theft and unauthorized credit card use charges. In a case that’s definitely taken the bounce out of the party, she’s been released on bond while awaiting arraignment. (The Smoking Gun)
