The rise of social media, smartphones, and broadband Internet access have painted a picture that isn’t exactly accurate. For example, you might think TikTok rules the social media universe, but only 37% or Americans use it, compared with 86% who use YouTube and 70% who use Facebook. Some other surprising stats:

99% of college grads use the Internet, but that number drops just slightly for people who didn’t go to college, at 93%.

Just 78% of Americans subscribe to home broadband service. You’d think rural folks would be driving that number way down, but 72% of them have broadband.

16% of Americans have a smartphone but do not have home broadband.

31% of Americans use LinkedIn. We’re not sure if we thought that number would be higher or lower.

Facebook usage is actually highest among people ages 30 to 49 — not Boomers, as you might think.

7% of Americans actually have a non-smart cellphone.
