The American Dream may feel out of reach to a lot of us these days, but it’s still achievable, according to new research. A study from DuelBits reveals the best states to see it in action and to reach it yourself.

It analyzes data from all 50 states, comparing them on seven factors traditionally related to the American Dream. These include the percentage of college degrees, the percentage of home ownership, average salary, number of foreign-born residents, rate of vehicle ownership, average debt and life expectancy.

Based on all of that, it seems the Northeast is the best part of the country to be in to make the American Dream come true. Six of the top 10 states are in that region.

New Jersey tops the list, thanks in part to its high rate for college education, as 43% of the state’s residents have a college degree.

The Garden State’s life expectancy is 79, the fourth-highest in the U.S., and it gets high scores for diversity, with 25% of residents coming from other countries.

On the flip side, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas are the states with the lowest chance of living the American Dream.

He recently woke up to gunfire. The thieves were breaking into cars when they spotted the Halloween star in the front seat of the truck.  The Michael Myers mask on the mannequin scared them so they peppered the truck with bullets. The pickup had more than 20 bullet holes. They did not steal it.

If it had been a coyote, you’d have to wonder if the sign was made by ACME. A young wolf from Yellowstone National Park's Junction Butte pack made off with a park sign warning tourists to stay away from an area with active grizzly bears. Biological science technician Taylor Rabe, who has spent 13 winters studying wolves as part of the Yellowstone Wolf Project, was monitoring the pack on Monday when she spotted one of the pups running across the road carrying a long, straight stick.

A closer look through her spotting scope revealed it was actually a bear management warning sign. The pup carried and chewed on it for a while before abandoning it and rejoining the adult pack. Rabe said the behavior is typical of pups who have wandered from the adults and are entertaining themselves, often drawn to things that smell interesting or are simply fun to carry. Good news for the wolf family; no charges have been filed for the theft. The Junction Butte pack entered the 2025-2026 winter season with 15 wolves and is one of the most-watched packs in the park.
