Lillian Rena Boos

Lillian Rena Boos passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on March 8, 2026, at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow.

Lillian was born on October 9, 1932, in the old log house on Sun Prairie Flat to Sherman and May Grimsley. Growing up on the prairie shaped the strong work ethic, resilience, and deep love of community that stayed with her throughout her life. She grew up surrounded by the wide-open prairies and enduring pioneer spirit of northeast Montana.

She received her early education at Sun Prairie School through eighth grade and graduated from Malta High School. She continued her studies at Northern Montana College (now Montana State University–Northern) in Havre. Committed to lifelong learning and excellence in her profession, Lillian later earned her master’s degree in education in 1982.

On June 6, 1954, she married Leonard Jerome Boos at Saint Mary’s Church in Malta. The couple spent their early years in the Malta area before settling in Glasgow for several decades, where they raised their three sons—Tony, Ed, and Darcy—while maintaining strong ties to their hometown of Malta.

Lillian was a dedicated and inspiring educator who taught in several rural schools throughout the region for 40 years. She brought warmth, discipline, and genuine care to her classroom, nurturing curiosity, respect, and kindness in the many students whose lives she touched.

Lillian’s creative spirit brought joy to many. She was an avid hunter, seamstress, bowler, sports enthusiast, bread maker, jewelry lover, and doll maker—and a hell of a good dill dip maker. She was also a talented ceramic artist who lovingly crafted handmade dolls and pottery alongside friends. Lillian cherished the companionship and laughter she shared as a proud member of the Red Hatters, embracing friendship, fun, and living life to the fullest.

Above all, Lillian lived a purposeful and adventurous life filled with love and generosity. She was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her heart and home were always open, and she had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and cherished. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her later years. Her legacy is one of kindness, warmth, and deep devotion to family and community.

Lillian was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Leonard Jerome Boos, who passed away in 2013; her parents, Sherman and May Grimsley; her sisters, Eva Oxarart and Faye Seel; her brother, David Grimsley; her grandson, Lane Boos; and her two great-granddaughters, Kinlee Dennison and Nola Dennison.

She is survived by her three sons: Tony Boos, Ed Boos (Kathy), and Darcy Boos.

She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kent Boos (Carli) and their children, Mya and Grady; Cassie Dennison (Dustin) and their children, Camri and Syri; Kyle Boos (Kirsten) and their children, Libby and Leo; Quintan Boos; Tara Specht (Jared) and their children, Justus and Aspen; Alisha Brewer (Andy) and their daughters, Leah and Scarlet; Kenny Boos (Cami); Chevy Boos (fiancée Piper); Adlee Boos; and Brody Boos.

She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who became family through her welcoming ways.

Cremation has taken place under the care of Bell Mortuary in Glasgow. A private family scattering of ashes will take place. A celebration of Lillian’s life will be announced at a later date, with details of time and location to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Lillian’s memory to the Malta School District, P.O. Box 670, Malta, MT 59538.

Lillian’s warmth, creativity, and boundless love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Online condolences may be left online for the family at bellmortuarymt.com.
