Scottie Booster Club awards three Jeff Jurgens MemorialScholarships to Glasgow High School seniors
Three Glasgow High School graduates have received 2026 Jeff Jurgens Memorial Scholarships to enable their studies at colleges and universities.
The scholarships are awarded annually by the Scottie Booster Club in memory of the late Jeff Jurgens, Glasgow student and rabid sports fan whose namesake basketball tournament is the source of the funds. The Jeff Jurgens Memorial Tournament, presented by the Scottie Booster Club and widely supported by the community, is held annually in March and attracts dozens ofyouth basketball teams in grades 3-8 from across easternMontana.
In order to be eligible for a Jeff Jurgens scholarship, applicantsmust have been a Glasgow High School athlete or plan to enter a medical or health-related field of study at a college, university, or trade school. This year, the Scottie Booster Club selected three scholarship recipients with a wide range of accomplishments and future plans.
Applicants’ sports backgrounds are considered, along with academic achievement, community service, citizenship, and financial need.
The three 2026 JJMT Scholars are:
Joley Chappell – All-State Scottie basketball player JoleyChappell will attend Williston State College this fall to pursue an associate’s degree in Applied Science while playing basketball for the Tetons. At Glasgow High School, she participated in varsity volleyball, basketball, and track for four years, was a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, G Club, and Scottie Trading Card program. Chappell is a decorated Scottie athlete, earning numerous All-Conferenceand All-State honors in both basketball and volleyball. Following her Williston State attendance, she plans to pursue advanced degrees in occupational therapy.
Josie Kemp – Josie Kemp will attend the University of Montana, where she plans to enter the pre-pharmacy degree track, culminating in pharmacy school and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. At Glasgow High School, Kemp participated in basketball, softball, and cross country. Following a debilitating knee injury, she pivoted from athlete to team manager for basketball and softball while continuing to compete in cross country. She’s been active in student government, National Honor Society, and was one of 16 GHS students chosen to revive the Scottie Trading Card program. Out of school, Kemp volunteers with First Lutheran Church and the Children’s Museum of Northeast Montana.
Annika Smith – Annika Smith has been active in fall and winter cheerleading and Scottie golf for all four years of her Glasgow High career. She’s been a key member of the school’s theater program, concert and pep band, swing and chamber choir, book club, student council, G Club, student government, and National Honor Society. She’s also participated in Fort Peck Summer Theater for the past four years, volunteering in the scenic design shop. Smith will attend the University of Montana where she’ll study theater design and technology and scenery.
The Scottie Booster Club raises funds to assist with the promotion and equipment/uniform needs of extracurricular activities associated with the Glasgow School District. In addition to presenting the Jeff Jurgens Memorial Basketball Tournament, the Scottie Boosters conduct 50/50 raffles at football games, coordinate sponsorship signage at various GHSathletic venues, and host a year-end banquet and recognition ceremony for Scottie athletes and coaches.
