Having the ability to travel for work seems pretty glamorous... until you're the one doing it. Hyatt recently commissioned a travel survey where they chatted with 2,000 Americans who regularly travel for work. What did they find? That 9 out of 10 business travelers say the only place they truly feel "off the clock" during a work trip is when they're in their hotel room.

One respondent said that to them, work trips feel like a "constant pressure to be 'on' with no real chance to fully recharge without guilt." Forty-six percent of travelers felt similar, admitting that they feel guilty when they say no to optional work activities while on a work trip.

How are workers finding some personal time for themselves while traveling for work?

47% have skipped networking to go to their hotel rooms

36% have faked meetings to get some downtime

33% blamed conflicting commitments to get out of work dinners

Some business travelers got a bit more creative with their excuses. A handful owned up to feigning things like temporary blindness, hearing loss or even amnesia to get out of a social obligation. Others said they had to go back to their rooms to FaceTime their pets or family.

A new survey by Talker Research reveals that parents spend 432 hours a year feeding their picky kids. Other findings:

- the average parent spends 12 hours per week on food prep and cooking

- the average parent spends three hours on meal planning and three hours grocery shopping every week

- the average parent spends two hours per week packing school lunches

- 71% of parents say their kids are picky eaters

- 58% of parents say it is difficult to find foods that the entire family enjoys eating

- 32% of packed lunches go to waste on a typical school day

Americans are reaching for coffee than ever. According to the 2026 National Coffee Data Trends Fall Report, 66% of Americans drank coffee in the past day, and coffee runs are making a big comeback, with out-of-home coffee consumption climbing to its highest level since before the pandemic. While most coffee drinkers, about 83%, still brew their coffee at home, 38% grabbed a cup from a coffee shop, restaurant, or another location outside the house. And here's another sign that tastes are changing: specialty coffee is now more popular than traditional coffee. Nearly half of all adults surveyed said they enjoyed a specialty coffee drink in the past day, marking a new record high.

If you've been thinking about changing up your hair, apparently 2026 is all about the "bixie." It's a mashup of a bob and a pixie cut, and according to stylists, it's become one of the most requested haircuts of the year. The look first had a big moment in the '90s thanks to celebs like Winona Ryder, Cameron Diaz, and Meg Ryan, but now it's making a major comeback. Experts say the bixie works on a wide range of hair types, especially straight and wavy hair, while adding volume and texture for people with finer hair. Even better, it grows out nicely, meaning fewer trips to the salon.

Just in time for Halloween, engineers in Switzerland have unveiled a disembodied robotic hand that can walk around on its fingertips, mimic human movement, and operate entirely on its own — a lot like the character "Thing" from The Addams Family. This robot hand can walk across more than a dozen indoor and outdoor terrains — and can even play a computer game by pressing arrow keys without losing its balance. While the whole thing looks like a stunt, there might be a use for this machine in tight workspaces where full robotic arms cannot fit — or be detached from larger humanoid robots to perform complex tasks.

Supercar Blondie says the Dubai Police have added a Ferrari 812 to their fleet of police cars. It is scheduled to patrol the streets this weekend. The Ferrari has a white, green and yellow color pattern. Its original 6.5-liter V12 engine has a top speed of 211 mph. It can go from zero to 62 mph in 2.8 seconds.

KRDO says a Jefferson County, Colorado animal control officer recently responded to a report of a wandering tortoise.  The tortoise, named Lard, weighs just under 100 pounds. He had escaped from a fenced yard and headed into a neighborhood.  Lard's owner tried to guide him home, but he was uncooperative. The animal control officer and a bystander picked him up and returned him home.

A Texas driver apparently needed a bathroom so badly that police say he intentionally crashed into a Kroger after finding the doors locked. The bizarre wreck happened around 4:30 Sunday morning in Rosenberg. Police say the man deliberately accelerated into the store, causing major damage to the pharmacy entrance. Investigators said the driver needed to use the restroom and became upset when he could not get inside. Police released photos showing extensive damage where the vehicle smashed through the building. Authorities did not identify the driver or say whether he will face charges, and they haven’t said whether anyone was injured.

Thieves who stole two trailers from self-driving truck company PlusAI may have thought they were grabbing valuable Nvidia equipment, but they ended up hauling away about 20 tons of sand. The trailers, marked with PlusAI and Nvidia logos, were taken from a Fremont, California, testing site after thieves apparently broke their locks and hooked them to their own tractors. PlusAI uses the sand to simulate real cargo during testing. Hours later, a company executive’s friend spotted the trailers parked nearby in Newark. Police recovered them after the thieves apparently opened the backs, discovered the worthless cargo, and abandoned them. No arrests have been made.

Cowboy State Daily says a DoorDash driver recently showed up with food for two drunk brothers during a six-hour standoff with the Gillette, Wyoming police.  The younger brother placed the order. The driver arrived around 2 a.m.  Police contacted the younger brother through the DoorDash app and asked everyone inside to come out, but he refused. Officers obtained a search warrant and entered the home at 7:55 a.m.  They arrested both brothers. They were charged with reckless endangerment for firing a gun
