Tourists at Yellowstone National Park tend to be litterbugs, at least judging by how much stuff the staff has picked up by the hydrothermal areas so far this year. The park's geology team dishes that more than 20,100 pieces of paper and plastic trash, 5,600 rocks and sticks and over 280 hats were picked up around Old Faithful and other areas. Here’s some of the other junk removed from the hydrothermal areas:

WSB says the Museum of Play has revealed the 12 finalists for the 2026 Toy Hall of Fame.  The list includes Bingo, Bop It!, Care Bears, Mahjong, Monster High, Mouse Trap, Pokémon Trading Card Game, Polly Pocket, Slide, Sorry!, Tickle Me Elmo and Yahtzee. The three toys with the most votes will be placed on a ballot for the National Selection Advisory Committee. The Class of 2026 will be announced in November.

 According to a new study, Dungeons & Dragons -- and other tabletop role-playing games -- significantly boost players' mental well-being, self-esteem and social confidence. Researchers found that players rated their D&D groups among the most positive and supportive networks in their lives. These gaming groups were reported as being more positive and supportive than traditional groups of friends and family, even though the gaming groups met less frequently. The study results were especially encouraging because so many people are dealing with loneliness -- and something as simple as playing a game around a table can go so far to improve social connections.

QSR Magazine says Long John Silver’s is bringing back its Talk Like a Pirate Day tomorrow. Guests who talk like pirates can get a free piece of hand-battered fish or a Chicken Plank at participating locations. Customers who dress like pirates can claim a larger offer: a free two-piece fish or chicken basket.  The restaurant says guests qualify with a simple “Ahoy!”  or by wearing a full pirate costume.

The Nerd Stash says some Walmart stores are locking up their  Häagen-Dazs ice creams. They are being placed in locked security containers. Store employees have to unlock the containers for customers.  Many other ice cream brands are still available to grab without assistance.

Scientists at Stanford University have created mice whose brains contain large amounts of working human brain tissue. The hope is that the hybrid animals can help researchers study diseases that are difficult to recreate in normal laboratory mice. Researchers said the mice did not appear to think like humans or show major gains in intelligence. Source: BBC

Squirrels caused two straight days of power outages after getting inside the same electric substation in Castle Rock, Colorado. The first outage happened Tuesday when a squirrel touched equipment at the CORE Electric Cooperative substation, causing a fault that cut power to about 4,400 customers for a little more than two hours. Another squirrel got into the facility Wednesday and damaged distribution equipment, leaving about 1,300 customers without power for roughly 40 minutes. Source: Denver Post

WWTI says the Watertown, New York police recently arrested Cherie Teal for shopping at a Jo Convenience Store while naked. She kicked one officer, rammed another with her body, and pulled away while they tried to take her into custody. Teal is being held pending an arraignment. She gave no reason as to why she shopped naked.

Guessing Headlights says a burglar recently got trapped inside a ventilation system at Liguez Brunch Restaurant in Waukegan, Illinois.  Restaurant owners heard the burglar alarm and someone screaming for help. The 24-year-old man told police he had entered the vent around 9 p.m. to hide from people and had been stuck for ten hours.  Firefighters climbed onto the roof and used a rope to pull him out of the vent. He was covered in grease. Police arrested him five days later on a Class 2 felony burglary charge.

WFLA says deputies recently found a man asleep on a couch after he broke into a home in Wimauma, Florida.  Erick Moreno tried to pry open the front door of one home. He then entered a second through an open rear sliding glass door.  Deputies found his bicycle outside. They found Erick asleep on a couch wearing the homeowner’s shoes.  He was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, resisting an officer without violence, and possession of a false identification card.

Life in a sewer pipe was a better alternative than jail for a thief on the run in India. The man crawled into a narrow, 100-yard long sewer pipe after stealing from a railway station. After a four-hour standoff with police, a fire company was brought in to flush the man from hiding. A burst of water did the trick and the man was blasted from the sewer.

A young thief in Romania should have known his idea stunk from the beginning. The man tried to make off with a cow and some corn. When he was spotted, the thief tried to hide in an outhouse, but lost his footing and fell in. The farmer had to save the thief from drowning. When police arrived they had to keep him at a safe breathing distance with a stick.
