One-Hit Wonder - THE DUCK    JACKIE LEE    #14 in 1965

Born Earl Nelson on 9/8/1928 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Died on 7/12/2008 (age 79). R&B singer. One-half of Bob & Earl duo with Bobby Day, or Rockin' Robin fame. They didn't have a Top 40 hit, but had several in the Top 100. Their songs have been sampled many times, including one named Harlem Shuffle that the band House of Pain sampled in their huge 1992 hit Jump Around.

Jackie took his stage name from his wife’s middle name, Jackie, and his middle name, Lee. He also sang lead on the Hollywood Flames' “Buzz-Buzz-Buzz.”

A British study of over 47 million road tests found that high-mileage electric cars are more reliable than gas models of the same age. Researchers looked at cars with 90,000 to 120,000 miles and found that electric vehicles are 25% less likely to fail road safety tests than traditional gas-powered cars. It seems the success of EVs in the long run has a lot to do with the simplicity of the machines as EVs usually have only 20 to 30 moving parts inside the engine block, compared to gas cars, which have up to 2000 moving parts.

Researchers in Hong Kong have found a way to eavesdrop on headphones, phones, and other gadgets from up to 100 feet away, even through walls. The scientists blast invisible radio signals at the devices — and the signals bounce off internal wiring and amplifiers. And because the hack targets physical wires instead of software or digital data, usual security stuff like password protection and encryption don't defend against the spying.

Dexerto says KFC is launching a limited-edition cereal inspired by the chain’s Original Recipe. Instead of milk, the company suggests pouring KFC gravy over the crunchy cereal. The cereal is flavored with KFC’s blend of 11 herbs and spices.  Each box costs $8. A serving contains 19 grams of protein and one gram of sugar.

Dexerto says Shock Top has launched a Candy Corn beer called Candy Corn Wheat. The limited-edition beer is inspired by the Halloween candy.  The seasonal wheat ale blends Shock Top’s wheat beer with Candy Corn flavor. It has a 5% alcohol by volume. The beer is rolling out at retailers nationwide for Halloween.

Dexerto says Carvel has launched a 4,000-calorie Reese’s dessert. The Overload Carvelanche reaches 4,000 calories with extra toppings.  The dessert combines vanilla soft serve with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Reese’s Pieces and caramel. The standard sizes contain 840 calories for a small, 1,140 for a medium and 1,800 for a large.  Carvel lets customers add up to 10 more toppings through its online ordering system. The highest-calorie combination includes extras such as cookie dough, chocolate chips, Heath Bar, M&M’s, Reese’s sauces, Wet Walnuts and Gummy Bears.  The limited-time dessert is available through November 2nd.

Newser says Lian Yunzhi, a six-year-old girl from China, has broken the world record for the fastest female to solve a Rubik's Cube. She posted averages of 4.52 seconds and 4.27 seconds at the World Cube Association event in China. Lian, who is nicknamed “Zhizhi,” is the first female cuber to solve the cube in under 4.5 seconds. Lian’s mother says she practices two to three hours a day and has learned more than 1,300 solving algorithms.  She started cubing as an extracurricular activity alongside dance and music.

ABC says thieves stole a Krispy Kreme truck yesterday in Philadelphia.  The truck was parked outside a Royal Farms store when it was taken. The driver was inside dropping off the donuts when the truck was stolen.  This is the second donut truck theft this year.

Cleveland.com says a Brunswick, Ohio woman was recently arrested for shopping at a Dollar General with no shirt on. The 24-year-old was drunk when she entered the store and started browsing the aisles. The cops found her lying on the floor. Her vehicle was illegally parked and towed. Officers cited her for disorderly conduct

United Press International says a former 7-Eleven store in Seattle was recently transformed into an "inconvenience store" by local artists. The store is now filled with hilariously "inconvenient" items like pre-tangled USB cords. The interactive art exhibit also contains beeswax egg candles, a candle that doubles as a yard stick, shoulder bags made from old Cheetos and Lays packages, and keychains resembling snack foods like Oreos and Goldfish. One display features a "landline iPhone" that only plays U2's "Vertigo" when answered. The humorous items can be purchased for amounts ranging from $1 to $10,000. Organizers posted on social media, "Art is inherently inconvenient. In a society that rewards efficiency and mass production, artists do things the hard way."

A Florida man nicknamed the "LEGO Bandit" is behind bars after his criminal enterprise finally came apart at the bricks. Deputies near Jacksonville say they were investigating a theft at a Target store when they tried to stop 45-year-old Ronald Tipton, who allegedly fled in a U-Haul truck. Authorities say the pursuit ended when deputies pinned the vehicle against a tree. Investigators believe Tipton was connected to an organized retail theft ring and accuse him of stealing more than $20,000 worth of merchandise, including expensive LEGO sets. He’s linked to at least three thefts dating back to August and now faces charges that include retail theft and aggravated fleeing.
