It's not easy being a kid these days. Many have the same structured life that leaves out downtime, so the stress builds up. A way to help your child relax is with hobbies. The trick, according to Kathryn L. Keough, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist at the Child Mind Institute, is to make sure the hobby aligns with their interest. Here are some hobbies that help boost mental health:

Sports and Active Play
Visual and Performing Arts
Curating Collections. It could be anything from rocks to paintings
Strategy & Story Games
Culinary Adventures
Experts say support your child in their hobby, but forget perfection…it’s all about happiness.

Scientists in China and Australia have developed a tomato that smells like popcorn. These popcorn?scented tomatoes still grow, taste, and look totally normal — they just smell like movie night. Yum? Apparently the goal is to deal with the problem of tomatoes losing their aroma and flavor during transportation and storage.

There are some things you have to notice, no matter what. A North Port, Florida man was arrested for drunk driving after his wife was seriously hurt when she fell out of his golf cart on the way home from an afternoon at the club. James Prante told officers he and his wife had been "partying at the club" since noon when she tumbled from the cart and hit her head on the pavement. She was found unconscious and taken to the hospital as a trauma patient. Officers found empty alcohol containers in the cart, and Prante blew a 0.197 on a breathalyzer, well above the legal limit. He was charged with DUI with serious bodily injury.

A new study from a Tampa law firm shows that golf cart crashes in Florida have been steadily climbing since 2021 as the vehicles become a common sight on public streets. Experts warn that these slow-moving carts are becoming more and more of a problem, especially since they're often being driven around town by young teenagers and senior citizens — two age groups notorious for less-than-expert driving skills.

In any business, it pays to know your audience. In New Jersey, a Girl Scout Troop appears to have found their niche…by setting up shop outside of a weed dispensary. The troop has joined forces with Daylite Dispensary, and is now allowed to sell those coveted Girl Scout Cookies outside of the store with the full blessing of the management…and demand is said to be “high.”
