Malta School District Hires New Superintendent

The Malta Public Schools Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the hiring of Dylan MacLean as the district’s next Superintendent. Mr. MacLean will officially begin his role on July 1, 2026.

Mr. MacLean, who brings more than a decade of educational leadership experience to Malta Public Schools, is currently serving as Superintendent and K–12 Principal at Westby School District in Westby, Montana. Over the course of his career, he has also served as a classroom teacher, athletic director, and head coach, developing a well-rounded leadership approach grounded in student success, accountability, and community engagement.

“Dylan stood out as a leader who understands rural education and values strong relationships with students, staff, and the community,” said Kyle Kluck, Chair of the Malta School Board of Trustees. “His experience leading all aspects of district operations, combined with his student-centered philosophy, makes him an excellent fit for Malta Public Schools.”

During his tenure in Westby, Mr. MacLean has overseen budgeting, curriculum alignment, staff supervision, and facilities management while maintaining a visible and engaged leadership presence. He is known for fostering a culture of high expectations, collaboration, and continuous improvement, with a strong emphasis on communication and trust.

“My leadership philosophy is rooted in putting students first and building strong systems that support both staff and learners,” said MacLean. “I am honored for the opportunity to serve Malta Public Schools and look forward to working with the Board, staff, students, and community to build on the district’s tradition of excellence.”


Mr. MacLean holds a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Montana and a Bachelor of Arts in History Teaching from Montana State University. He is fully licensed in Montana as a Superintendent and K–12 Principal.

In addition to his administrative experience, Mr. MacLean has remained actively engaged in the classroom and extracurricular programs, reflecting his commitment to staying connected to students and instructional practices.

“Malta Public Schools has a strong foundation and proud tradition,” MacLean added. “I look forward to listening, learning, and working collaboratively to support students and ensure continued success for the district.”

The Board of Trustees extends its appreciation to the community, staff, and stakeholders who participated in the search process.
