Highlanders Crown Five at Montana Open

The Glasgow Highlanders finished in 3rd Place in the large team standings and 4th place overall out of 195 teams at the prestigious Montana Open this past weekend in the Billings Metra. GWC scored a very impressive 258 points, just eleven points short of Team Champs (Billings West) for the overall title.

This year’s MT Open featured 2,287 total wrestlers, the second most ever in the 20-year history of the event. The Glasgow Wrestling Club had the 2nd largest team in attendance this year as the Highlanders were represented by 71 strong! The 271.5 points are the 2nd most that GWC has ever scored at the Montana Open.

At the Montana Open, final team score standings are calculated by taking the total points from a club’s top 10 individual scorers. However, the Glasgow Wrestling Club did score the 2nd most overall points at this year’s event, piling up 600.5 points during the 3-day event.

FIVE Individual Champions led the way for GWC, while 30 Highlanders secured a top six finish. The five Champions is tied for the second most in club history at the Montana Open. TenLea Sundeen, Newt Knaff, Hannah Holinde, Walker Kirkland, and Brands Casterline ALL brought home the coveted SKULL by winning an Individual Championship in their respective weight classes. Seven other Highlanders would finish in 2nd place and just short of a tournament title.

That brings an end to the season for the majority of the club. Next weekend, six Highlanders will travel to Rapid City, South Dakota, to take part in the prestigious AAU Black Hills Nationals. While a record 11 Middle School and High School wrestlers from Glasgow will gear up for Team Montana and the AAU National Duals coming up in April in Des Moines, Iowa.

Tyler King, Jack Morehouse, Saunten Gamas, Thomas Cotrell, Taden Sundeen, Zane Cotrell, Siale Moala, and Tucker Twitchell will all head to Iowa this upcoming weekend. While Madison Lamb, Aubree Holinde, and Chloe Lamb will leave with the Girls on April 15th.
