(Photo from Norval Electric Facebook post) Many area residents endured power outages on Thursday, as high winds and heavy snow snapped power poles overnight and into early Thursday morning.
Much of Glasgow was without power for around four hours on Thursday; many other rural areas experienced longer outages. According to a Norval Electric Facebook post:
Over the past 24 hours, crews at NorVal Electric Cooperative have been working tirelessly to restore power after an outage that damaged over 30 poles and impacted nearly 2,500 meters. Their dedication, long hours, and commitment to our members do not go unnoticed.
We also want to extend a sincere thank you to our neighboring cooperatives— LYREC Lower Yellowstone Rural Electric Cooperative and McCone Electric Co-op.,Inc —who traveled hundreds of miles to lend a hand. This is what Cooperation Among Cooperatives truly looks like—coming together to serve, support, and strengthen one another.
In a Facebook post from Northwestern Energy:
Overnight, the Glasgow area received 6–8 inches of heavy, wet snow accompanied by high winds, leading to significant ice accumulation on power lines. Customers in Hinsdale, Tampico, Glasgow, Whatley, Nashua, and Saint Marie were impacted by outages, and many remain without electric service.
Our crews have been working throughout the day repairing broken poles and downed power lines, and restoration efforts will continue until service is returned to all customers.
Safety remains the top priority for our crews and the communities we serve, particularly given ongoing challenging road and weather conditions.
Thank you for your patience as crews continue restoration work.
According to Northwestern Energy's Outage Map, some residents in the Glasgow, Nashua, Hinsdale and St. Marie areas were still without power on Thursday night.
