GLASGOW, Mont. -- Have you ever wondered what's in your livestock or well water? Residents of Valley County are invited to participate in a water testing program offered by the Montana State University Extension to better understand the quality of their livestock or household well water supply.
Water sample bottles will be available for pickup at the Northeast Montana Fair from August 5th-8th at the 4H quonset. Agricultural producers using private wells, stock ponds, or other rural water sources are encouraged to participate.
Participants will receive instructions for collecting their water sample and returning it for laboratory analysis. Once testing is complete, MSU Extension Water Quality Specialist Adam Sigler will visit Valley County on Thursday, August 27th to explain individual test results, answer questions, and help residents understand what the findings mean for their household or agricultural water quality.
Private well owners are responsible for monitoring the safety of their drinking water, and routine testing can identify concerns such as bacteria, nitrates, hardness, minerals, and other water quality issues. Understanding your water quality can help protect your family's health and guide decisions about water treatment or maintenance.
Said Valley County MSU Extension agent Roubie Younkin, "This program provides residents with an opportunity to receive professional interpretation of their water test results and learn practical steps to address any concerns."
The water testing program is made possible through a "Stress in Agriculture Grant", awarded to Montana State University Extension, Valley County. The grant supports educational programs that strengthen the health, resilience, and well-being of agricultural producers and rural communities across Montana.
