Charles "Chuck" Lewis Flickinger

Charles Lewis Flickinger, 90, of Glasgow, Montana passed into the hands of his Heavenly Father on October 2, 2026. He was born on February 3, 1936, to Hazen and Ethel (Goodrich) Flickinger in Scobey, Montana. He was second youngest of their seven children. He attended First Grade at Avondale, Montana and the rest of his elementary and high school at Opheim, MT graduating in 1954. He attended college in both Missoula, Montana and Arlington, Texas.

Chuck worked on a surveying crew for Morrison & Maierle, where they surveyed the road to Canyon Fairy Dam near Helena, MT. He was drafted into the Army in 1958 for a period of two years. His basic training was spent at Fort Gordon, GA for 8 weeks of radio teletype school, then part of the Signal Corps he went overseas to Korea for 13 months.

The summer of 1960 found him working with his dad who was custom harvesting from Texas to Montana in partnership with Arthur D. Lawrence. After a few years, Chuck took his dad’s place in the custom harvesting business. When the Montana harvest was over, they would often return to Texas in the fall to harvest maize or to Kansas to haul sugar beets.

In 1964 he met Eileen Evenson, a girl who was born and raised on her parents’ farm just north of Fort Peck. She stole his heart and they were married February 1966. That summer he took her along on the harvest as their cook. In the Fall of 1967, their first child was born and with that the decision to no longer go harvesting out of state but continued to custom harvest in the county for a few more years, until buying his own land.

Four children came to bless their lives and later eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Chuck also drove school bus for 12 enjoyable years. Bus driving ended when they started making Yuma, Arizona their winter home from November to March, returning home just in time for seeding the crops. Chuck spent twenty-two wonderful winters in Yuma making great friends, playing cards and dominating on the shuffleboard court.

Chuck retired from farming in 2018 and moved to Glasgow where they took up fishing and continued following their grandchildren on the basketball court, track, baseball fields, and the stage of Fort Peck Summer Theatre. No grandchild’s visit was complete without a game of cards and Grandpa’s much requested popcorn.

Chuck was preceded in death by his son, Wes Flickinger; his parents, Hazen and Ethel; brothers, Dale (Ruth) Flickinger, Hazen Jr (Dorothy) Flickinger; sisters, Opal (Lyle) Bourassa, MaryAnn (John) Omvig, Charlotte Flickinger; and brother-in-Law, Lyle Walstad.

He is survived by, Eileen, his loving wife of 60 years; sons, Stan (Mughi) Flickinger of Scobey, MT and Britt (Lacey) Flickinger of Plentywood, MT; daughter: Kim (Tom) Pewitt of Glasgow, MT; grandchildren, Rachel, Tamrah and Colton Pewitt, Tyson (Tawnee), Landon and Jordyn Flickinger, Tiffany (Sam) Herberger and Thandie Flickinger; great-grandsons, Keaton and Stetson Flickinger; sister, Nina Walstad and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
