Glasgow City Council Meeting Notes

The Glasgow City Council met in regular session Monday, June 1st.

Action items taken by the council:

Opened bids for the City of Glasgow's gas and diesel for fiscal year 2026-2027. The only bid was received from Ezzie's Wholesale and the council voted to take the bid under advisement.

Opened bids for the City of Glasgow's garbage contract for July 1, 2026 thru June 30, 2029. The only bid received was from T and R Trucking and the council voted to take the bid under advisement. Residents in the City of Glasgow currently pay $13.68 per month and receive 2 garbage pick ups per week. This rate is low compared to other communities such as Lewistown where residents pay $30.00 per month for just 1 pick up per week. The proposal from T&R Trucking would provide an increase over the next 3 years for residents in the City of Glasgow. Year 1 would increase to $17.00 per month, Year 2 to $19.00 per month and Year 3 to $21.00 per month. Commercial rates would be assessed at a rate of $2.50 per cubic yard with an increase of 10 cents in year 2 and another 10 cents in year 3 of the contract. T&R Trucking noted that they continue to experience increasing costs for labor, equipment, maintenance, insurance and fuel.

The council voted to move forward with an extensive project to replace a portion of the raw water transmission main that crosses over the Milk River. The City of Glasgow receives its water from the Missouri River downstream of Fort Peck Dam and uses a pipeline to transport the water to the Water Filtration Plant in Glasgow. The water transmission line crosses the Milk River in several locations and the proposed river crossing would be the final crossing to be replaced. The cost of the project is estimated to be $1.4 million. The city would use a low interest loan from USDA Rural Development to fund the project and the council was told that water rates would have to be increased to pay for the project. The rate increase has not been determined as of June 1st.

The council also voted to hire TJ Synan for an open position in the city street department.

The City of Glasgow is still advertising for the position of Chief of Police and Public Works Director. Both positions are currently vacant.
