Reminder: Landowners Have Until March 15 To Apply For Public Access To Public Land Programs

HELENA  Landowners wanting to allow public access through their private lands to public lands have until March 15 to apply for Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ access programs.

These programs are designed to provide public access to state or federal lands where limited or no legal public access currently exists. Specifically, this March 15 deadline pertains to Unlocking Public Lands, Public Access Land Agreements and the newly created Block Management Access Corridor program.

For enrollment in access programs, landowners receive monetary and non-monetary incentives, including possible infrastructure reimbursements such as gravel, culverts and cattle guards to facilitate public access to inaccessible public lands. Each program has different incentive amounts vary based on a variety of factors.

More information about these programs, including enrollment criteria, application forms and program information can be found at fwp.mt.gov/landowner or by contacting your local FWP regional office.

Enrollment for landowners willing to allow public access to their private lands instead of public lands only is also open and can also be found at the link above, with enrollment deadlines to come later in the year (Elk Hunting Access -- May 1, Block Management -- June 1).
