#UPDATE#Valley County Sheriff's Office Investigating Shot Fired at BNSF Train Near Tampico

On the evening of October 20, 2026, a BNSF train crew reported they believed they were being shot at while traveling through the Tampico area. A press release was issued early this morning to inform the public and assist in identifying those involved.
Following that release, two individuals voluntarily contacted dispatch, identified themselves as present during the incident, and cooperated fully with authorities. Both stated their actions were not malicious or criminal in nature. The investigation is being conducted jointly by BNSF Police and the Valley County Sheriff's Office, and all facts are being assessed before any conclusions are drawn.
Sheriff Boyer acknowledges the community's concern and appreciates those who care about the safety of our train crews and neighbors. However, this office asks that residents allow the investigative process to work as it is designed to. The facts of this case are still being gathered, and every person involved is entitled to due process. Any threats directed at individuals connected to this incident are taken seriously and will be addressed by law enforcement.
