Arrests Made in Polar After Over a Pound of Suspected Methamphetamine Discovered During Traffic Stop
On September 20th, 2026, a traffic stop near Poplar resulted in the seizure of over a pound of suspected methamphetamine. It’s believed the drugs were intended for distribution on the Ft. Peck Indian Reservation and in Roosevelt County.
Four subjects were arrested:
Derrick Nicholas Byrd (38) - Detroit, MI
Vincent Earl Thompson (26) - Clinton Township, MI
Michael Dean Grey Bear (24) - Poplar, MT
Kristie Lynn Boxer (36) - Brockton, MT
Byrd and Thompson have been charged in Montana District Court with felony possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to distribute and tampering with evidence.
Grey Bear and Boxer have been charged with the same offenses in Ft. Peck Tribal Court.
This case is similar to another traffic stop in Bainville on February 10th, 2026, when a traffic stop resulted in the seizure of a pound of methamphetamine and 150 fentanyl tablets that were bound for the Ft. Peck Indian Reservation.
That stop netted three arrests:
Jauron Laurenz Cox (24) - Detroit, MI
Cody James Corne (41) - Wolf Point, MT
Calvin Mayo Corne (39) - Wolf Point, MT
All three subjects have been convicted in Montana District Court of felony possession of dangerous drugs with the intent to distribute and are awaiting transport to the Montana State Prison.
It’s important to point out that all of these arrests were a collaborative effort of multiple agencies, including the Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office, Ft. Peck Tribal Police, Montana Highway Patrol, Montana DCI, Valley County Sheriff’s Office, Roosevelt County Attorney’s Office, and the DEA. It’s a sterling example of what can be accomplished when we all work together for the betterment of our Reservation and County.
