Glasgow Mayor Rod Karst thanked all city employees and volunteers who helped during the thunderstorm that hit Glasgow on July 3rd. Karst noted that storm drains became blocked by storm debris and water backed up all across the city as the water was unable to drain to the stormwater drain system. Karst said that once those storm drains were cleared of debris the water drained properly. For those living on the south side of Glasgow, everything worked properly with water drainage with the exception of the blocked storm drains. Karst said the gates on the levee which are used to drain stormwater were all open despite some claims the gates were closed. Karst said the only time those gates are closed is when the Milk River water level gets up to the level of the gates. The water backed up only because the storm drains were blocked from storm debris.
