The Malta Mustangs defeated a tough, Fairfield Eagles basketball team by a score of 63-53, to pick up the win in the opening round of the Northern B Divisional Boys' Basketball Tournament in Glasgow on Thursday night. With the win, Malta moves into the semifinal round at 8:00 tomorrow night, where they will face the winner of the Glasgow vs. Shelby game this evening. Fairfield will play in a loser-out contest at 2:30 on Friday afternoon against the loser of that game.

The game was close after the first quarter, but Shelby outscored Glasgow 17-3 in the second quarter, and then never looked back on their way to the victory. Shelby advances to a semifinal match up with Malta on Friday night at 8:00, while Glasgow will take on Fairfield in a loser-out contest on Friday afternoon at 2:30.
