NE Montana Veterans Memorial 10-year Anniversary Celebration

The Northeast Montana Veterans Memorial will celebrate the 10-year Anniversary of its Grand Opening Sat. July 4th at 10a.m. at the memorial site in Fort Peck. The guest speaker will be Jonathan Wiens, a 2001 GHS graduate, a 2005 graduate of United States Military Academy at West Point, & former Army Green Beret. Wiens is a combat veteran who served deployments in Iraq with the 1st Cavalry Division & in Afghanistan as a military intelligence officer. The latest addition to the Montana Veterans Memorial is a Battlefield Cross honoring those killed in action from the 9 counties of northeast Montana: Daniels, Dawson, Garfield, McCone, Phillips, Richland, Roosevelt, Sheridan, & Valley. Limited seating will be available, & attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for the program. Reserved seating for Gold Star Families, elderly attendees, & individuals with disabilities will also be provided. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be moved to the Fort Peck Recreation Hall. Attendees are encouraged to make a full day of the celebration. A food vendor will be available following the program, the Fort Peck Interpretive Center will be open, & the Fort Peck Summer Theatre will host a 2p.m. matinee performance of “9 to 5.” In the evening, VFW Post 3107 will be open to the public, offering a view of the fireworks display presented by the Glasgow Fire Department. The Veterans Memorial Committee is also holding a raffle to help defray the cost of the Battlefield Cross. The drawing will take place at the conclusion of the program on July 4th. Tickets are available from committee members & local VFW posts until the time of the drawing.
