Scotties Upend Baker 27-20

The Glasgow Scotties defeated the Baker Spartans by a score of 27-20 in a non-conference football game in Glasgow on Friday night. Glasgow took advantage of early-game Baker turnovers, and utilized a stellar, relentless ground attack, featuring the duo of sophomore Reece Martin and senior Liam Chapman to grind out the hard-fought victory over a game Baker Spartans squad.

Martin and Chapman combined for 173 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns in the contest. Martin finished the game with 98 yards on 16 carries and 1 touchdown, while Chapman finished with 75 yards on 20 carries and 3 touchdowns respectively. Quarterback Cash Stulc added 48 yards on the ground, as Glasgow finished with 234 yards rushing, unofficially. Cash Stulc finished the game 5 for 9 passing for 36 yards before exiting the game due to injury. Jack Morehouse stepped in and completed 2 out of 5 passes for 43 yards for Glasgow. Reece Martin led the Scotties in receiving yards, hauling in 3 passes for 39 yards. Cade Hudyma, Cody Kuka, Tavyn Bietz, and Liam Chapman all had one reception apiece for Glasgow.

Glasgow jumped out to a 13-0 lead after scoring on their first two possessions, after capitilizing on back-to-back Baker turnovers. Baker would then answer in the second quarter, as they scored on a 7 play, 60 yard drive capped off by a 2 yard pass from Quarterback Canden Colter to Jackson Enos to bring the score to 13-6 at the 8:50 mark of the 2nd quarter. Glasgow would threaten at the end of the 2nd half, driving all the way down to the one yard line, before Baker would come up with a big interception to take the game to halftime at 13-6. After Baker would score on a 39 yard pass from Canden Colter to Lincoln Lyson; Glasgow's Liam Chapman would find the end zone two more times, extending the Glasgow lead to 27-12. Baker would battle back, and score once more on a 57 yard touchdown pass from Colter to Lincoln Lyson to bring Baker within 7, with just 2:16 remaining in the game. But Reece Martin would recover the ensuing Baker onside kick, and then pick up back-to-back first downs on Scottie running plays, to help Glasgow seal the victory. 

Baker was led offensively by junior quarterback Canden Colter, who finished the game 13 for 30 passing totaling 234 yards passing, with 3 touchdowns. Baker running back Tristin Barth led the Spartan running attack finishing with 28 yards on 5 carries. Jackson Enos led the Spartans in receiving yards with 98 yards on 7 receptions, scoring 2 touchdown. Lincoln Lyson finished with 2 receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown. Glasgow held Baker to just 32 rushing yards. Glasgow would outgain Baker by a final margin of 313-266.

With the victory, Glasgow moves to 2-0 on the young season while Baker falls to 1-1. Glasgow will travel to Cut Bank next Friday night, September 11th, to take on the Wolves. Baker will travel to Roundup next Friday night, to face the Panthers.
