VIOLENT INCIDENTS ON FORT PECK UNDER FEDERAL INVESTIGATION
By Louis Montclair — The Journal

POPLAR — A series of violent incidents across the Fort Peck Reservation over the past week — including a machete assault involving juveniles, a shooting in Poplar, and a burglary attack in Wolf Point — are now under investigation by the FBI, according to available information.

On Monday, March 30, 2026, Fort Peck Tribal Law Enforcement responded to a violent assault in Poplar that had been circulating on social media.

The video showed an individual swinging a machete and striking a person lying on the ground, with a caption reading, “got him.”

Two juvenile suspects were arrested and have since been charged with attempted murder in Fort Peck Tribal Court.

The victim, a 10-year-old boy from Poplar, sustained serious injuries and underwent surgery as part of his recovery. The video quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread attention in the community.

Because the case involves juveniles, federal and tribal laws prohibit the release of identifying information, and court proceedings are not open to the public.
Two days later, on April 1, a shooting in Poplar led to charges against two individuals.

The victim, Bryce Granbois, was able to reach TJ’s Quik Stop following the shooting, where emergency services were contacted. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Both suspects were later arrested and arraigned in Fort Peck Tribal Court on Friday, April 3.

Tanner Montclair is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, criminal endangerment, and unlawful discharge of a firearm. He pleaded not guilty and is being held on a $10,000 cash bond, with a no-contact order in place.

Chanelle Red Dog is charged with complicity to attempted murder, complicity to aggravated assault, and criminal endangerment. She pleaded not guilty to the felony charges but pleaded guilty to criminal endangerment. She was sentenced to six months and remains on a $10,000 cash bond on the remaining charges.
In a separate case in Wolf Point, a 71-year-old woman, identified as Irene Moe, was severely assaulted during a burglary inside her home.

Two men were arrested and charged in connection with the attack.

Gabriel Robinson pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a total of two years for aggravated assault and burglary, along with an additional 190 days for misdemeanor charges, including elder abuse and theft. His sentence will be served consecutively, totaling two years and 190 days, along with fines exceeding $11,000. He was also ordered to register as a violent offender.

Allyn Turn Toes has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody on a $10,000 cash bond. Prosecutors are seeking enhanced sentencing due to the severity of the alleged crime.
All three incidents are currently under federal investigation, reflecting the seriousness of the cases and the potential for overlapping tribal and federal jurisdiction.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
