HELENA, Mont. – In advance of the one-year mark of Montana’s new brand launch at the World Famous Miles City Bucking Horse Sale in May 2025, the Montana Department of Commerce is inviting Montana businesses who make innovative designs and products to use Montana’s official brand.
“Montana’s brand is iconic and Montanans know best how they want it used,” said Gov. Greg Gianforte. “Whether it’s a baseball cap, sweatshirt or decal, we want Montana’s makers to use the Montana brand and design the next must-have Montana-branded item. And we want them to be wildly successful with it!”
Commerce is inviting Montana makers to use the Montana brand to support Montana businesses by enabling them to represent the state in the products they manufacture. The official Montana brand is the most prominent brand used to promote Montana as a place to visit and conduct business.
“All across Montana, manufacturers, design shops, apparel producers and businesses that produce promotional materials are creating incredible Montana-themed products, and we’re excited to give these entrepreneurs the official Montana logo to use,” said Mitch Staley, chief marketing officer for Commerce. “Commerce hopes to see Montana’s brand used on designs in stores, online and anywhere people buy Montana-themed products in the coming months. These businesses’ success with the brand will be Montana’s success. The earnest use of Montana’s brand in ways that attract buyers to spend their hard-earned money will help to promote our state and reach our audiences in ways that existing go-to-market strategies cannot.”
The Montana Department of Commerce cannot sell products. Part of Commerce’s mission is to find ways to get maximum exposure for Montana’s brand to the state’s key audiences. To accomplish that mission and for Montana’s businesses to get maximum benefit from the new brand, Commerce has provided the Montana brand and brand elements online for download.
While products created using the Montana brand will not receive any official endorsement from Commerce or the State, they will be allowed to use a statement noting that they are featuring the official Montana brand. Makers who use the Montana brand are required to follow the Montana brand guidebook, which is also available online.
NOTICE: Commerce will be launching a contest that will allow businesses to showcase their use of the Montana brand in summer 2026. Further details will be released in the coming weeks. While full contest guidelines will be released at a future date, minimum requirements will include that for a business to have its design or product considered in the contest, the contestant must be a business in good standing with the Montana Secretary of State’s Office, a member of the Made in Montana Program and its design must be offered for purchase to the general public.
