Glasgow To Host Regional Civics Bee Next Spring

The Mansfield Center is thrilled to announce another year of the Montana Civics Bee— a fantastic opportunity for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders in Montana to enhance their civic education! This year, we are partnering with the Billings, Glasgow, Kalispell, and Helena Chambers of Commerce to host Regional Bees across Montana next spring. We appreciate you sharing this opportunity with your networks!

A brief overview of the Civics Bee:

  • 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students must submit answers to 4 short-answer questions (150-200 words each) proposing their ideas for improving their community by February 2nd, 2027.
  • Top-scoring essays will be invited to participate in a Regional Civics Bee near them in spring 2027 for the chance to win cash prizes. Finalists from each regional bee will be invited to compete in the Montana State Civics Bee in Helena in early summer 2027 for the chance to win cash prizes at the state level.
  • The winner of the State Bee will be sent on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the National Civics Bee in fall 2027 for the chance to win $100,000 toward college.

To apply, students should visit the National Civics Bee webpage and create an account to access the application portal. (There is also a mail-in option.)

This is a fantastic opportunity to practice essay writing and applying civic knowledge to real-life problems. For additional resources to prepare students’ essays and round out their civic knowledge, visit our resource platform.
