SPRING FOOTBALL
UM, MSU wrap up spring drills
HELENA, Mont. (AP) - The Montana and Montana State football
teams wrap up spring drills with scrimmages on Saturday.
The Griz hold their spring game at Daylis Stadium in
Billings, with kickoff at 11 a.m. The game is going to feature
the offense vs. the defense. Coach Robin Pflugrad says a lack of
depth on the offensive line prevented them from splitting into
two teams.
In Bozeman, Montana State wraps up spring drills with the
Sonny Holland Classic. Kickoff is at noon. Bobcat seniors drafted
the two teams.
After the game, the players will receive the rings
celebrating their 2010 Big Sky Conference championship and coach
Rob Ash will announce next year's captains.

MSU BILLINGS SIGNS
MSU Billings women's basketball signs 4 recruits
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - Montana State Billings women's
basketball coach Kevin Woodin has announced the signing of four
in-state recruits during the spring signing period.
Joining the Yellowjackets for the 2011-12 season are:
Shepherd forward Kayleen Goggins, Saco guard Annie Depuydt,
Billings West forward Janiel Olson and Butte High post Kabri
Emerson.
Goggins averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds and three steals
per game in earning all-state honors.
Depuydt averaged 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists
per game and was named the MVP of the Class C state tournament
after leading Saco to the state title.
Olson averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two
assists per game in helping Billings West to the Class AA state
title.
Emerson averaged 13 points and nine rebounds in helping
Butte advance to the state tournament.

WESTERN-LATIMER
Glacier's Latimer signs with Western volleyball
DILLON, Mont. (AP) - Montana Western volleyball coach Lisa
Griffiths has announced the signing of setter Paige Latimer of
Kalispell's Glacier High.
Latimer holds the Glacier High single season and career
records for service aces and assists and was a team co-captain as
a senior, when she earned second-team all-conference honors.
Griffiths says Latimer is a skilled setter who will quickly
earn the respect of her hitters.
Latimer's parents both graduated from Montana Western,
where her father, Dennis, played football. Her older sister,
Chaeney, is also attending Western.

UM-ATHLETICS FEES
UM proposes athletic fee increase for softball
(Information in the following story is from: Missoulian,
http://www.missoulian.com)
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - University of Montana administrators
want to ask students or student leaders to approve an athletic
fee increase to pay for the proposed women's softball program.
UM students currently pay $92 per year in athletic fees.
Administrators want to collect an additional $25 per year for the
next two school years, and then increase the fee by another $25
per year for a total of $142 per year.
The additional money would fund the women's softball team,
which school officials say they need to add to meet federal Title
IX standards - guidelines meant to prevent sexual discrimination.
The Missoulian reports administrators hadn't planned on
seeking student input until they learned the state Board of
Regents requires asking the students first, through a referendum
or a vote of the student governing body.
