The Cal Ripken 12u All Star baseball team is in Kalispell for the Regional tournament.

They lost in their opening game to Northern Oregon, 7-1.

The 12u team came back and own over Kalispell in their second game on Thursday night, 5-3.

Reds Sweep Sidney On Saturday

The Glasgow Reds American Legion Baseball Team swept Sidney in a home double-header on Friday, then did the same thing while visiting Sidney on Saturday.

The Reds won game one 11-5 and game two 14-3. The Reds are the #1 seed going into the district tournament, which will be played in Sidney starting this Wednesday.

Glasgow Angler Ken Schmidt Part Of Winning Team In North Dakota Governor's Cup Walleye Tourney

A Montana duo won the 2014 Governor’s Walleye Cup and the $10,000 top prize that accompanied it.

Ken Schmidt, Glasgow, and Mark Jones, Billings, weighed in a two-day total of 32.51 pounds for the tournament that was held Friday and Saturday on Lake Sakakawea. The tournament was headquarted at Fort Stevenson State Park.

Second place and a check for $4,400 went to a Coleharbor team, Josh Pochant and Eric Stebbins, with a total weight of

31.14 pounds. Third place went to the team of Stuart Mead, Hazen, and Dale Westmeier Beulah, with a weight of 30.6 ponds.

Finishing in fourth place was the team of Jeff Enzminger, Bismarck, and Gary Cayko, Glasgow, weighing in 30.46 pounds. Rounding out the top five in the 39th annual Governor’s Cup was the team of Glenn Bosch and Kathy Bosch, both of Dickinson, with a weight of 29.13.

There were 252 teams in this year’s Governor’s Cup.

Reds sweep Patriots and earn #1 seed

The Glasgow Reds swept a four game series with the Richland County Patriots this weekend and secured the #1 seed in their upcoming District Tournament. On Friday the Reds won 17 – 6 and 14 – 4 here at Bill Connors field, and then 11 – 5 and 14 – 3 yesterday in Sidney. The wins upped their conference record to 25 – 3. Laurel will be the #2 seed. They split a double-header with the Billings Blue Jays yesterday losing 11 – 6 and winning 17 – 7. That gives them a conference mark of 22 – 6. The Blue Jays finished at 17 – 11 and will be the #3 seed. Glendive will be the #4 seed with a 14 – 14 mark; Billings Cardinals the #5 seed at 13 – 15. Rounding out the field are the Lewistown Redbirds at 12 – 16, Richland County Patriots at 6 – 22, and the Miles City Mavericks at 3 – 25.

The Reds will open the Eastern A District tournament in Sidney on Wednesday with a 10:00 a.m. game against Miles City. Other games will have Glendive taking on the Billings Cardinals at 1:00 p.m. The Billings Blue Jays will face the Lewistown Redbirds at 4:00 p.m. and the final game of the day will have the Laurel Dodgers taking on the host team Richland County Patriots at 7:00 p.m. The winner of this tournament will advance to the State Tournament with the host Lewistown Redbirds in Lewistown on July 30th – August 3rd. The regional tournament will be held in Alaska on August 15th – 20th.

In pool play on Thursday, they defeated Havre 15-4 in pool play.

Glasgow's 11u all-star team, playing in Bozeman, defeated Lewistown 11-10 on Friday.

Reds Win Big Over Sidney
Friday, July 18th 2014
The Glasgow Reds American Legion Baseball Team solidified their hold on first place in the district, with a 17-6 win over Richland County (Sidney) in game one on Friday night.

The Reds scored 9 runs in the bottom of the first and 8 more in the second to coast to the 11 run 5-inning win.

Jake Page led Glasgow offensively, going 3/3, all of them doubles. The Reds pounded out 12 hits, while Richland County was held to just 4.

Severson homered for Richland County.

Kevin Schindler picked up the win, and Gage LeGare pitched a scoreless 5th.

The Reds won the second game 14-4 and assured the #1 seed heading into the District Tournament next week. The Reds are now 23-3 on the year, while Richland County drops to 6-20.

Reds Sweep Doublheader From Laurel Dodgers To Take Over First Place In Division

The Glasgow Reds defeated the Laurel Doders 6-0 and 4-3 in front of a big crowd at Bill Connors Field in Glasgow on Wednesday. The Reds improved their record to 21-3 in conference and 46-6 overall. That 21-3 conference record puts the Reds in first place.

Glasgow has 4 games left with Sidney to wrap up the regular season this weekend. The District tournament starts next week.

The Doggie Dash 5K run & 1 mile run-walk is Sat. July 19th at Sullivan Park Softball Complex. This is a fundraiser for the NE MT Pet Rescue.

Registration & packet pick-up, if not preregistered, will begin at 7a.m., the 5K starts at 8a.m. & the 1 mile starts at 9:30a.m. You can run or run/walk with or without your dog, please have dogs on a leash.

FWP Free Bow Hunter Ed Course Is July 19th

A free bow hunter education field day certification event will take place at the archery range off Skylark Road in Glasgow Sat. July 19th from 9 – 11a.m.

In Montana, completion of a hunter education course is required for all hunters born after Jan. 1, 1985. In addition, all first-time bow hunters must complete a bow hunter education course & mandatory field day testing before they can purchase an archery license in the state.

Each year there is a July 31 deadline for completing certification for first-time archery hunters who want to hunt during the fall season. Hunter & bow hunter education courses are available in traditional classroom settings, as well as online through the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ website at fwp.mt.gov for students who are over 18.

Registration for the Glasgow bow hunter field day event, where practical skills will be tested, is only taking place online through the FWP website, & students are required to sign up in advance.

To register on the website, click on the “Education” section, then “Bow Hunter Education,” then the “Field Day Registration” section. Students attending the certification event can bring their own bows. Practice arrows will be provided.

They will host Laurel tonight ( Wednesday ) in a double-header, starting at 5:30 p.m. We'll have the first game on 1240 AM KLTZ.

15 And Under All Stars Finish Third

The 15 AND UNDER Babe Ruth all-stars competed at the state tournament this past weekend. The team consisted of players from Scobey, Plentywood, Culbertson and Glasgow.

The team started pool play Thursday night losing to Flathead 5-3.

Beat Helena Friday afternoon 10-6.

Saturday morning beat Northern all-stars(Conrad, Cut Bank, that area) 13-12 in 8 innings and beat Miles City 9-8. Funny, we ran out of daylight going into the top of the 7th tied 12-12 Saturday night. We came back at 8 am Sunday morning to finish it and won in the bottom of the 7th.

The top 2 from each pool advanced to tournament play . They finished 3-1, second in their pool, to put them in the tournament bracket Sunday . They played Columbia Falls, the number 1 seed from the other pool, and lost 12-6. Then played Flathead again for 3rd and 4th place, beat them 18-8.

The team finished 3rd at the state tournament.

12u &10u Baseball Teams Advance

The 12u all star baseball team won the Montana state championship for their division this past weekend.

They defeated Miles City early on Sunday and then beat Glendive for the title. The team now moves on to regionals in Kalispell, July 24-27th.

The 10u team also won on Sunday, defeating Big Muddy 6-4 and 18-8. They play in Manhattan this weekend.

Luke Gunderson To Play In East-West Shrine Football Game

Former Glasgow Football player Luke Gunderson will play on Saturday in the prestigious Montana East-West Shrine Football Game. Gunderson is a 2-time All-State alum from Glasgow.

The game will be played July 19, 2014 in Laurel, MT. The Montana Shrine Game is the premier all-star game in Montana and has a long history of distinguished players and coaches.

It is one of the oldest high school all-star football games in the United States. Every year since 1947, Montana high schools’ finest players are selected to compete in a game to raise money and to help make the public aware of the expert orthopedic and burn care available at the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Spokane, Washington.

In recent years, the Montana game has become one of the top Shrine Games in the nation for hospital donations. The 2013 Montana Shrine Game raised $146,000, the top donation in the United States to date.

Local Football Officials To Officiate Montana East/West Shrine Football Game

7 area football officials have been selected to officiate the 68th Annual Montana East/West Shrine Football game set for Saturday in Laurel.

Six of the officials are from Glasgow and one official is from the Malta area. Together, the officials have over 112 years of football officiating experience.

The group has plenty of all-star game experience including officiating the Knights of Columbus Badlands Bowl, Class B All-Star Game and the Class C All-Star Game.

The officials include Allie Olsen of Whitewater and Glasgow officials, Tyler Partridge, John Jones, Ken Jansa, Stan Ozark, Dean Vegge and Jon Bengochea.

Fairview's Bieber Commits To Wisconsin School

Justin Bieber of Fairview has committed to play college basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Bieber, a 6-foot-2 guard, helped guide Fairview to the Class C state tournament each of the past three seasons. He was selected to the all-tournament team each year, as the Warriors won the title in 2012 and placed fourth in 2013 and 2014.

As a senior last season, Bieber averaged approximately 16 points and six rebounds per game, earning all-conference honors for the second consecutive season. He was an all-state performer as a junior.

UW-Superior is a Division III program, which plays in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

UGF hires Geleynse as SID, marketing director

The University of Great Falls announced that it has hired Jesse Geleynse as its sports information and marketing director.

Geleynse, 29, spent the last three years at the Great Falls Tribune, where he covered high school, college and professional sports. He won both first and second place in the “Best Sports Story” category at the Montana Newspaper Association Better Newspapers Contest in 2014.

UGF Men's Basketball Coach Headed To Arizona

Steve Silsby, men's basketball coach at the University of Great Falls, is leaving the Argos to become head men’s coach at Chandler-Gilbert (Ariz.) Community College.

Silsby stated the move is in part to get back close to his children's grandparents.

Argos’ athletic director Gary Ehnes lauded the progress made by Silsby, who posted three consecutive winning seasons. The Argos were 56-37 the last three years, including a 24-24 mark in Frontier Conference play.

BOZEMAN — Bozeman girls basketball coach Brad Rustan was hospitalized in a medically induced coma after suffering a head injury in a fall while on a fishing trip with his brother at Fort Peck Reservoir.

Published reports indicate Rustan was injured on June 29. He was first taken to a hospital in Jordan and then flown to St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings, where his family says he was being treated in the intensive care unit.

Rustan has coached basketball at Bozeman High in some capacity in all but one season since 1986. He coached the girls from 1990-98 and returned to coaching the girls in 2008. He was an assistant for the Wichita State women for one year before returning to Bozeman High.

He was an assistant to boys coach Mike Cole from 1999-2007 and assisted the girls the following year before returning as head coach.

The Bozeman girls have won four Class AA state championships with Rustan as head coach.

The Glasgow Reds American Legion Baseball Team routed Lewistown in a home double-header on Tuesday night. The Reds shut out Lewistown 11-0 in game one, and coasted to a 21-5 win in game 2.

46th Annual John Hahn Memorial Softball Tournament Results

Congratulations to Team Beaver (Billings, MT.) for winning the 46th Annual John Hahn Memorial Softball Tournament held at John Hahn Field in Fort Peck over the holiday weekend. Team Beaver defeated The Ranger Lounge (Sidney, MT.) 16-7 in the 1st championship game to win the title and take home the $1,000 cash prize sponsored by The Gateway Club! It is the 2nd John Hahn Championship in a row for Team Beaver. 3rd Place went to ADC and 4th Place to Team Monster. Ten (10) teams from Glasgow, Wolf Point, Havre, Sidney, Billings, and Culbertson played 18 games over three days... Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. Team Beaver also swept the offensive and defensive MVP of the tournament and Saturday nights Home Run Derby. A record 34 Players competed in the Saturday Night Home Run Derby. Reds Split With Laurel

The Glasgow Reds American Legion Baseball Team split a pair of one-run games with Laurel on Thursday night.

Glasgow won 6-5 in game one, but in game two, despite another great pitching performance by Jason Thibault, the Reds fell 2-1.

The Reds are in Williston for a tournament this weekend; their next home action will be Tuesday, July 8th vs. Lewistown.

Scottie Football Camp Starts Monday Night

The Glasgow High School & Middle School, 7th & 8th, football camp is Mon. June 30th – July 2nd at Scottie Field from 6:30-9p.m. each day. Former NFL Player & College All-American Tuff Harris will assist at this camp.

Equipment check-out will be at the 1st night of camp, June 30th.

Cost for the High School age kids is $80 – Middle School age is $50.

The Glasgow Reds American Legion Baseball Team swept a double-header from Lewistown on Wednesday, 4-0 and 7-0.

On Thursday, the Reds knocked off the Billings Angels 7-5. Then on Friday, the Reds shut out the Billings Halos 9-0.

During the Miles City tournament over the weekend, Glasgow topped the Miles City Mavericks 7-1, won over the Halos 9-1, and defeated the Glendive Blue Devils 7-4.

The Reds will next travel to Laurel on July 3rd.

The Glasgow 12-under all star baseball team won the district championship on Sunday, beating Miles City 7-2.

They opened the tournament with a 9-4 win over Glendive, followed by a 20-6 loss to Miles City. Glasgow then defeated the Border team 13-1, and knocked off Glendive 10-5 before taking the title game against Miles City.

The Glasgow 10-under all stars won their first game over Sidney 12-10. They then lost to Miles City 16-3. They then lost to Glendive twice, 9-2, and 6-3.
