Hi-Line Ford Athlete Of The Week
Thursday, May 8th 2008
Hinsdale High School sophomore Kirk Capdeville has fine-tuned his skills in the pole vault event this season. His goal has been to keep improving to be the best he can be, and that goal is in his grasp.
Every meet Kirk attends, he continues to show improvement, starting with the Hinsdale Invitational. He finished the meet with a second-place finish in the pole vault event, with a height of 12-6½, second in the 200-M and third in the 800-M.
At the Glasgow Top 10 meet, Kirk flew through the sky for a first-place finish after successfully launching over the bar set at 13-0.
Rounding things out, at the District 3C Meet, he pushed the bar to an even 14-0 for another first-place finish. At the district meet, Kirk also took second place in the 200- and 800-meter events, and sixth place in the 100-meter.
Kirk is the son of Mitch and Marjie Capdeville of Hinsdale.
Glasgow Wrestling Coach Mark Johnston Resigns To Take Administrative Position In Ronan
Wednesday, May 7th 2008
Glasgow Wrestling Coach Mark Johnston has resigned his teaching and coaching position from Glasgow Public Schools.
Johnston has accepted an assistant principal position at Ronan High School. Johnston has worked the past 17 years in the Glasgow school system as a teacher and head wrestling coach. Mark Johnston coached the Glasgow Scotties to 5 state championships in 1993, 2001, 2002, 2007 and 2008.
Here is a letter that Mark Johnston has written to the Glasgow community.
5/06/08
Glasgow Community,
I am resigning at the end of this school year from my teaching and head wrestling coaching position at Glasgow Public Schools. I have accepted an assistant principal job for Ronan High School. I have had an awesome time the past 17 years building one of the best wrestling programs in the state of Montana with the help of many individuals. I have been blessed to have excellent assistant coaches like Byron Hallock, Rocky Thompson, my sons Mark and Cory, J. Billingsley, a great AAU wrestling program, and excellent parents willing to take their kids around the country. This community has been one of the main reasons for the wrestling programs success.
I would like to thank Mr. Bob Farrell for giving me the opportunity to coach my first wrestling team. I have been lucky to have the current administration, Mr. Hageman, Mrs. Markle and Mr. Thibault and the Glasgow School Board willing to send our wrestlers to the best tournaments in the state. This schedule is another reason the program has been able to maintain such a high level of success. At the present time, Glasgow wrestling program is in excellent shape. There is an excellent core group of wrestlers returning, and some young ones coming in that give this team a great chance at being in the hunt for years to come.
I would like to thank Jim Stone and the Glasgow community for giving me the chance to co-run a successful business, Johnstone Sprinklers and Landscaping. The business offered me the opportunity to employ my boys during their schooling years, and help me live a more comfortable life. We continue to have great customers and Jim will continue the business long after I am gone, offering the most experienced landscaping and sprinkler installation in the area.
Finally, I couldnt have asked for a better place to raise my family. All three of my kids have received their college degree thanks to the excellent education offered in Glasgow Schools. They made it clear early on that they never wanted to graduate from any other school, they are Glasgow Scotties. I know I will be a Scottie Fan for life. Sincerely,
Mark Johnston

Comments from Coach Flaten:
Here are a few comments about how the season is going.
Boys team -
"It's been a tough spring with a lot of meet cancellations and poor weather. Our kids are starting to come together and peak at the right time. Our Varsity boys have taken 2nd place to state favorite Malta 3 times now and we shot our best team score at the District meet this Monday."
"We've been shooting right around our averages but that really low scorer has been absent from our team so far. I feel we are playing with confidence....we are just letting some really poor holes effect our overall performance." We need to play a little more consistent on an individual level." We are trying to peak for the divisional tournament and right now it seems like we are on that path."
Girls team - "Our Girls are really improving and working hard on their game. The greatest thing about this group is how much they enjoy the game. They are getting a lot of tournaments in and gaining valuable experience."
