| The 2013 Longest Dam Race is complete - over 281 finishers in Saturday's events. Check the results below! Tim's notes: there are so many stories out there, I thought I'd share a few I know: these are accurate as far as I know. Hope you enjoy these stories as much as I did! Julia Kolstad and Alex Simensen, who went 1-3 in the mile, are both sophomores for the Glasgow cross country team. Bridger Sanders, who finished 4th in the 5k, and Ethan Jamba 9th, are both members of the boys cross country team. Bridger's dad Jeff won the 5k walk. Michelle Feezell was 2nd in the mile and 4th in the 5k. And she and Boomer announced their engagement this week too! Her 7 year old son Eli finished right ahead of her in the mile! 4th place finisher in the mile, Lexi Erdahl, was just part of the family tradition: her brother Eli was 14th in the mile, her mom Jenny was 4th in the 10k, and Grandma Joann Solem won the 5k walk. 75 year old Theresa Shipp completed another 1 mile walk: her daughter Rose walked the 5k. Our very own Leila Johnson escorted 5 year old Piper through the 5k, and 3 year old Jet completed the mile! Irene Whitmer won both the 10k and the 10-mile bike ride. The Hoffman family competed in 3 events: Tom on the bike, Darla in the 5k walk, and daughters Kerry and Alyssa in the 5k run. Vonnie Pattison, and daughters Shielda and Chelsie all ran the 10k. Long-time Dam Race runner Donna Kloker finished another 10k: at 65, she was the oldest finisher in the race by 5 years. Sam Waters, one of two 60 year old men to finish the 10k, ran a very respectable 56:58 in his first attempt at the distance. He was coerced into running it by daughter Tiffany, who also ran it. Judy did the 5k walk. Mel Hoffman of Sidney, winner of the 10k, won it 5 years ago. He and 2 running buddies from North Dakota, Mark Hager and Dan McGurren, came for the race. They went 1, 2, 6 in the 10k. I raced against Dan in college when he ran for Minot State, and I was at Dickinson. Hannah Schultz was 6th in the 5k run; her dad, Tom, was on the committee that started the Dam Race back in 1994. That year, he pushed Hannah in a stroller. John Strike Senior of Harlem did the 5k walk, just 3 weeks after back surgery! Phillip Meyer and Marietta Coetzee get the travel award: they hail from South Africa! They finished together in the 5k walk. Bob Smith won another age group medal in the 5k walk. He was first again in the 65-99 year old age bracket. The 70 year old was 4th overall. |
