Jody Kabeary Josephine Ellen “Jody” Kabeary, age 62, passed away on Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow, Montana.
Jody was born on May 8, 1948 in Glasgow, the daughter of Milton M. and Ellen C. (Moore) Kabeary. She has lived her entire life in Glasgow.
She was an avid Glasgow Scottie fan and also enjoyed the Minnesota Twins. She loved to swim and enjoyed walking. Jody walked everywhere. She really enjoyed collecting jewelry and looking at photo albums. She liked to go to lunch at the Quick N Tasty.
Jody is survived by her brother Tom Kabeary and his wife Susan of Puyallup, Washington, cousins Tim and Kristi Kabeary of Seattle, Washington, Shannon and Bert King of McCord Air Force Base in Washington, and Ryan Kabeary of Billings, Montana, and great nieces and nephews Malu and Jaida King.

Lodey Leetta Uphaus, age 94, passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, Montana.
Lodey was born on June 9, 1916 in Glasgow, Montana, the daughter of Mathew and Mary Handley. She was raised out south on the Missouri River near 9th point. She attended Handley School, Far A Nuff School, and 9th Point School. She graduated from Beauty School in Great Falls and then practiced in Glasgow in the “Orchid”.
On November 30, 1945 Lodey married Ray Uphaus in Glasgow. They lived on the ranch west of Glasgow. Lodey enjoyed painting, sewing, and she loved her dogs. She was a fantastic cook and baker. She also enjoyed raising quarter horses.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ray on July 27, 1989 and her brother Marcus Handley of Glasgow.
Survivors include her daughters Cheryl Uphaus of Glasgow, Bette Uphaus (Robert Joscelyn) of Glasgow, and Karen Campbell Rickman of Helena, Montana, two grandchildren; Elena and Kristina Rickman of Helena, and two sisters-in-law; Jerry Uphaus of Glasgow and Chick Gines of Seattle, Washington.

Warren was born on June 2, 1923 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the son of Guy and Theodosia (Brookes) Handley. He was raised in Montana. As a child he lived in Glasgow, Conrad, Valier, and attended Great Falls High. After high school he entered the US Army serving from 1940 to 1945.
Warren married Margaret Sands in 1943 in Australia. She passed away in 1954. He married Edwina Whitaker in 1958 and she passed in 1980. Warren then married Yvonne Collins in 1983 and she passed away in 1989.
He was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic, a welder and a well driller. He was very proud of his family. Warren was a Golden Gloves State Champion in Montana, a soloist in the church choir, and an artist. He enjoyed coffee and story telling, tinkering, and attending auctions.
Survivors include his two sons; Pat (Keenie) Handley of Glasgow and Mark Handley of Malta, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Jones, in 1995, and two sistes; Bethel Holman and Vivian Wagner.

Rita Mae Downing Fuhrman, 83, of Glasgow, Montana, died in her sleep at Valley View on Friday, August 20, 2010.
Services will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, followed by interment at the Glasgow Cemetery and a reception at the church.
She was born to James Alfred Downing and Josie Quigley Downing on April 11, 1927, at Wendell, Montana. Her first years in life were spent on her father’s horse ranch located near Buggy Creek, 20 miles north of Glasgow. She was home schooled for four years by her mother, Josie Quigley, a teacher who taught at various country schools in the Valley County area, until her mom passed away when she was 12. At that time, her father moved to a farm/ranch on the Milk River and he was the postmaster there as well. She attended school at Tampico for a few years and then moved Minneapolis live with her Aunt Katie Braunsworth where she attended Catholic school and finished her formal education. One of her favorite things to do to was ride the tram and go to the movie theater for 25 cents with her girl friends. As a young adult, she worked at Munsingwear in Minneapolis for 40 cents an hour and lived with her sister, Marjorie.
She returned to the Glasgow area in about 1945. In Glasgow, she worked at the Johnnie Café and for Paul Campbell at the Glasgow Hotel. While she was working for Paul Campbell, she met her future husband, Earl Fuhrman, who had returned from World War II. They were married on October 16, 1947 and lived on a farm and a ranch north of Glasgow in the Larslan area. She was a homemaker, a Sunday School teacher, and a 4-H leader for 20 plus years. Most importantly, she raised 5 children with love and determination to have a good work ethic and to respect others. She loved to have coffee with the neighbors, read, dance and golf with her buddy Gladys. In the later years, she & Gladys enjoyed beating Earl and Gerry in pinochle cards! In 2004, Rita & Earl moved to Nemont Manor in Glasgow, Montana and then to Prairie Ridge. In 2009, she moved to Valley View.
She was preceded in death by two sisters Marjorie Hall, and Florence Grady, a son, James Frances Fuhrman, and a grandson, Jonathan Peter Hamper.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Earl; one son, Earl Alan Fuhrman and his wife Debby, of San Diego, CA; three daughters, Arlene Hamper of Green Valley, AZ; Cynthia Solberg and her husband, Ken, of Larslan, MT, and Anita Vaskey and her husband, Jim, of Billings, MT; five grandchildren, Kris Hamper and his wife Tami with four great grandsons, Kyle, Luke, Marcus, and Jake, and one great grand daughter, Taylor, of Portland, OR; Derek Solberg and his wife Judee with two great grandsons, Trevion and Memphis of Powell, WY; Tiffany Solberg Hanson and her husband, Ryan with two great granddaughters, Kendall and Josie, of Aurora, CO; Tyler Fuhrman of San Diego, CA, and Carly Fuhrman of San Diego, CA, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made in her honor to the Pioneer Museum.

Nelson “Nellie Jack” Cox was born on June 23, 1933 in Poplar, Montana, the son of Joseph and Julia (Grandchamp) Cox. He was one of fourteen children. Nelson was raised in the Frazer-Oswego area and after high school entered the US Marines Corp. After his service there he enlisted in the US Air Force and served in Korea. Nelson worked for the Westlands, Scotts, and Etcharts. He was an original cowboy, and also worked as a cowboy on the Sanford Ranch in Wyoming.
He enjoyed rodeo, partying, breaking horses, and he loved his family. Nelson loved reading western books and playing cards. He helped raise Vanessa Clancy, Natasha Jackson, and Tyson Black Eagle, all of Wolf Point, Montana.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews and grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister Yvonne Hopkins of Glasgow, a brother Ed Cox of Manhattan, Montana, and his care-giver Julianne Ackerman of Glasgow.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his special partner, Donna Black Eagle.

Vernice S. Watterud

Vernice S. Watterud, 89, of Glasgow passed away Sunday, August 8, 2010 in Bozeman. She was born on May 1, 1921 in Leeds, North Dakota, a daughter to Sievert and Jennie (Johnson) Biem.
At an early age, Vernice and her family moved to Opheim, MT, where she was raised and educated. She married Lester Watterud on March 4, 1938 in Opheim. They made their home in Opheim farming and raising their five children. Vernice worked for Mountain Bell and later as a clerk for the United States Post Office until her retirement. After retiring, she and Lester moved to Glasgow. In 2001, she moved into Nemont Manor, enjoying her friends and residing there until her health required her to move closer to family. She then moved to Bozeman and resided at Highgate Assisted Living until the time of her death.
Vernice attended the Assembly of God Church in Glasgow; she enjoyed sewing, crochet, reading and crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lester; two sons, Lyle and Leslie; and siblings Randy, Anard, Ernest, Raymond and Ilene.
Survivors include her children, Don (Elaine) Watterud of Bozeman, MT, Shirley Quiring of Colorado Springs, CO, Larry (Tess) Watterud of Fresno, CA, and LaDonna (Ken) Wade of Florence, AL; daughter-in-law, Karen Watterud of Colorado Springs; 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; sister Opal (Fred) Whitkanack of Brazil, IN; and brother Kenneth Biem of Spokane, WA.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at Bell Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Assembly of God Church, followed by interment at the Highland Cemetery.
